When the chips are down and without a moments notice what bug out guns, pocket rifles or survival rifles do you have? These rifles fits the SHTF scenario where you need a compact rifle that can be broken down and stored in your day pack, truck or even in your hidden cache.
Just so you know, these survival rifles were talking about is not a personal defense gun like the AKs or fully equipped M4 (AR-15). Our main goal is about taking this out to the field when needed during a dire situation to hunt small game for survival.
There are many rifles on the market that are perfect for survival purposes, but we decided to narrow it down to these for SHTF.
Savage Arms Model 24 Combination Gun
The beauty of this rifle is its ability to shoot in single-shot or as a shotgun. There are different models available, look into a Model 24C (Camper) which you can store your ammo in the stock. To switch from rifle to shotgun is just a barrel change. Some models can shoot .22 S/L/LR, 22 WMR, .30-30, .357 even .223. Shotgun tubes included are .410, 20-gauge and even a 12-gauge.
Henry Arms U.S. Survival AR-7 Rifle
this 22LR can be used for self-defense and its a boss at hunting small game as well. This semi-automatic rifle can be broken down to main components and housed inside the stock. This all around survival rifle is reliable and durable that can last a long time.
Ruger 10/22 Takedown Silent SR Suppressed Rifle
Another great manufacturer that understands what their customers want, that is suppressed. This suppressed 10/22 rifle can be broken down and store in your bug out bag or truck. You can hunt small game with this rifle without the loud bang. Read the rest of this Survival Rifles.
However, as takedown .22 rimfire rifles go, I'd probably have a hard time reaching past the Marlin 39A (Mountie carbine) to get the 10/22. The 39A and its predecessors have been made as a takedown since 1897 with few changes. The company even ran a print ad detailing how a Model 39 was used by Filipino guerrillas to kill Japanese soldiers during WWII - that's about as "SHTF" as you can get.
We own a pair of those takedown Rugers, albeit not suppressed. They live under the spare tires in our cars. Handy little guns. Ours are topped with Nikon glass.
Light, accurate, and handy if the SHTF.
The Ruger 25 round mags work quite well, too.

You needed to buy the AR-007 Model.
It is hard to define what a survival gun is.
I remember reading a book by a former Luftwaffe commander. He mentioned that German bombers in WWII carried a drilling in case they were downed in the middle of nowhere. They were intended to be used to hunt game. I wonder if any were ever used for that purpose?
Back in the 50s or maybe early 60s, I read an article about survival after an Armageddon type event. It was written by Erle Stanley Gardner, the Perry Mason author.
He recommended a Smith & Wesson Masterpiece in .22 LR with a six inch barrel. I know Gardner did most of his writing in a trailer in the middle of nowhere. I guess it would have been handy for shooting rabbits etc.
I really can’t foresee any scenario where I would need anything other than a 12 guage or maybe a .22 rifle. I used to keep a Redhawk in .44 mag in my pickup. I actually used it a couple of times in Western, KS but just for fun.
“After much study Im convinced the role survival rifle is best filled by modern medium to large bore air rifles.”
What would you recommend?
The two most appropriate types for taking small game silently would be the pre-charged pneumatic (pcp), or a single stroke springer (the most popular of which are actually powered by a gas piston).
Each type has advantages that must be weighed by the end user. Lots of helpful info on YouTube, and at airgundepot.com, or pyramidair.com.
Id ignore the .177 caliber and start with .22 up to .50 caliber. Most pcp guns .357 caliber and above can also shoot air bolts at velocities higher than any crossbow on the planet.
Maybe in Alaska, otherwise, too much gun for lower 48. A lever gun 30/30 would work or even one in .357/38spl. For squirrel or rabbit still a lot of gun.
For squirrel or rabbit a 20 gauge is sufficient.

10-22 with an assortment of ammo is ideal, in my opinion. From Velocitors, to souped up lightweight bullets like Stingers or Quik-Shoks, to frangible rounds as silent as an air rifle, but much more powerful, and detachable magazines that make changing fast and easy.
Sorry, no such 10/22 exists. Theyre not as quiet, even using subsonics from a suppressor; theyre not that much more powerful, either.
And in my opinion, they also lack an equivalent accuracy potential. Where airguns do fall severely short is firepower. But for hunting, whats that worth?
Turns the 10-22 into a reliable bolt gun. I could never get .22CBs to feed properly.
Frangible, too.
By comparison, a suppressed .25 firing a 34 grain pellet at about 1050 ft/sec (below the speed of sound, thus no sonic boom) delivers about 90 ft-lbs of energy and make less noise than striking a match.
Following the ballistics chart attached to the link you posted, the CBee only generates 40 ft-lbs of energy; less than half of the setup I described, and with a smaller cross section.
There is no such thing as a SHTF survival battle rifle. Hes mixing too many things together here, its like rating the most dangerous fighter aircraft compared to other fighters in their era then including a list of lawn tractors to choose from.
A survival rifle is primarily for feeding yourself, it should be easily portable and self contained. Bonus points for being able to defend yourself from 2 legged and 4 legged predators because when youre simultaneously jumped by a moose and a bear you don't want to have to whip out your American Derringer Pistol. It is not a battle rifle. There is no such creature as a survival rifle chambered for .223/5.56, the 24c in .223 is a special purpose turkey gun for a group of southerners where that is legal.
The battle rifle a survivalist chooses to use for defense in a SHTF scenario might be a .223/5.56 but that is an entirely different thing, not a survival rifle. The fact that terms and things tend to get all mixed together in these w1n1 articles tends to make me think that this guy isn't just a clueless kid trying to learn from our responses, hes a FOREIGN language kid writing in English trying to learn from the rest of us.
The SR556 is the same as answering "John Deere" to the question. Its so far out in left field and sooo absolutely useless for the intended purpose as specified that it could only be seriously replied by someone not understanding the question. This is the Forest Gump answer. Not that its entirely the fault of the posters here since it is on the list and the author confused the terms/catagories.
5 rounds is really good. The M6, 24c, and x caliber are the only serious answers even really on the list and for any given target you only have one appropriate round loaded for the game in question. This isn't a battle rifle. You don't have piles of ammunition with you in a survival situation, its only the small cache that is packed with you.
These aren't my definitions. These are the definitions of the governments that are likely to have to put someone in a survival situation. Note that the US uses the M6. The Soviets developed the
How fast is a follow-up shot with your setup? A head shot on a deer with mine should be sufficient. And that’s the biggest thing I’d shoot.
TP-82, a triple barreled double 28gauge over a single 5.45x39. A drilling like the poster above suggested. Fierling configurations might be a good choice also if one could keep it light enough.
Neither of these official survival weapons are for defending against squadrons of Chinese paratroopers, thats just not what survival weapons are for. They arent even particularly useful for when the buggers swarm out of town to cause problems for those of us who live prebugged. You might be able to take out a patrol of 2 but nothing more.
