At least 46 Oregonians have been ordered to surrender their guns under a new type of court order intended to stop suicides and mass shootings, law enforcement and court officials testified to state lawmakers Wednesday.
Ten of the cases affect people in Multnomah County, where authorities have seized more than 50 guns from people found to pose a danger to themselves or others, Mike Reese, the county sheriff, told a joint meeting of the Senate and House judiciary committees. Washington County follows with at least eight cases, then Josephine County, with at least seven, according to documents submitted to the committees.
In a June news story “Shots Not Fired,” The Oregonian/OregonLive reported on the first several dozen gun seizure orders issued under the new law. The newsroom’s analysis showed judges ordered guns seized mostly from people affected by substance abuse, anger or mental health problems. Research presented to lawmakers Wednesday indicates that trend has continued.

At minimum a relative should be given physical control of the firearms. Preferably one with integrity to follow the old man’s will. If no will is found, then sell them and use the money for his care.
I don’t remember the precise disposition of the collection. They may have been sold. His wife didn’t want them in the house in any event. The point is that the police were correct in taking them away once it was clear (he threatened his wife) that he was dangerous.

In Marxistchusetts, you have a "duty to flee" an aggressive intruder, even from your own home. I can see Marxistschusetts setting up a law like this and deeming someone defending their home and family as "dangerous."

Therein lies the rub. Yes, the police took them away because he was dangerous. That is beside the fact that the guns belonged to the person, and they were his property. The guns should have gone to a trustee until the man was adjudicated a danger. If a finding was made, then the trustee should carry out the wishes of the family. The firearms do not belong to the police. They shouldn't be able to confiscate them without compensation at fair market value to the family/owner.

YES...Happened with one of our family members...the gun was TAKEN by a family member....(Hospice does not allow guns, btw, and her husband was under Hospice care)...she kept requesting it be returned...it was NEVER returned. She had some dementia so would forget about it for awhile, then remember it...she’s in assisted living now.
The left has found it’s silver bullet for getting rid of dangerous guns and people. You don’t do it all at once, the hillbillies might object. One at a time and make examples of the people that are a threat to themselves or others. If they resist and you have to kill them , that only proves you were right in taking their guns. The “due process” is basically a secret tribunal where the accused is not represented. A judge said it was okay, it’s completely legal.

Now all they need to do is declare that anyone who would own a gun has to be crazy and then they have grounds to seize them all.
