Sorry about the poopy and gross subject matter here but I need to get this off my chest. I'll hide this post in "Bloggers & Personal" so the regular news-seeking folk don't have to see it.
So it is a somewhat mild autumn day here in New England and thus a perfect day to go on a hike in one of the various state and town forests that abound in this part of Connecticut.
During my walk, I saw at least a half dozen little baggies full of dog poop, all neatly tied off and discarded along the side of the trail. I have been seeing this more and more over the past few years.
Can somebody explain this to me? Why on earth would people think it a good thing to bag up their dog's poop, tie it off, and toss it to the ground in the MIDDLE OF THE WOODS!
I just want to find these people and punch them in the face.
Do these ignoramuses think they are doing a good thing here? It would be far better to just let their dogs poop in the woods like all the other animals living in the woods do so that the feces can quickly decompose and blend into the soil. Where do these people think the deer, squirrels and other woodland creatures crap? Guess what, they are WALKING THROUGH IT!
Don't these people know what soil is mostly made of? Organic matter! Which includes a lot of dead insects, dead plants, dead animals and FECES!
It is much better for the environment to just let the dogs poop in the woods. When they bag it up in plastic and leave it sitting there, it might still be there years from now. All these "do-gooders" are doing is PRESERVING their disgusting dog poop and blighting the landscape with these infernal blue poop-filled baggies.
If anybody has a good reason for this practice of bagging dog poop in the woods and leaving it there, I'd like to hear it.
I gave up long ago trying to explain to her that they are no longer children!
Well, I live in the boonies. Why would you bag it up, so it will remain, when it will disappear naturally? As a matter of fact, I was dove hunting this morning when the urge hit me. I just went coyote style and left it on the trail. Bagging it up just creates a problem, rather than leaving fertilizer.
Exactly. As long as you pick it up on your way out, there’s no problem. But leaving it there definitely is.
Homeless, I would expect. But bicyclists? That is totally gross. Well both are. But at least the bicyclists have some money.
I take them and throw in the woods
The bags are degradable
Dog owners should just do that
Nature dont give a shit. People dont want to see it Or trash for that matter
They are trained, like dogs, they do not know any better. All are Democrats too. Perhaps a few are Flake Republicans. 8>)
I live in a small town in Alaska. We bag our dog poop and ship it to Seattle (along with the rest of our trash.)

I always wonder what goes on in the dogs mind.
Takes a dump and if they could by instinct, would hide it, but watch”The Master” pick it up and bring it back with them.
Maybe the dog thinks Mistah Mastah can hide it better..Got me
My guess is twofold. They think pooper scooper laws are about 2 things - reducing the smell and preventing unwitting pedestrians from stepping on poop. The bag accomplishes both ends. It’s not environmentally friendly in the short run. But in the long run, everything reverts to dust, including plastic bags oxidized by sunlight.
What’s the half-life of a plastic bag, before it disintegrates and spills it treasure into the ground?
Take your pick, they’re either dumb, lazy or both. I hate to sdmit, but my dogs have been trained to wonder off the trail to go, so no one will step in it. If they go on of near the trail, I place it in an old disposal covered coffee cup that I then bag and dispose of, that way I don’t have a smelly squishy bag to carry as my coffee cup is not just tossed out but used again.
I sure would appreciate that.
You would appreciate what? Bagging it or not? By the way I was just funnin..
I have a neighbor who did that. I started picking it up and depositing it on his doorstep (unwrapped).
It worked pretty quickly.
I remember when we curbed out dogs over storm drains.
easy peasy
Idiots do it here all the time in Phoenix. I have no idea what they are thinking as it is far less polluting to not bag it at all. Maybe they like to play with the poop but don’t want to carry it.
I always light mine on fire, ring the doorbell, and run like crazy,
Sorry, I couldn’t resist
As for my own experience, my dogs have always gone into the woods to do their thing, they never pooped or peed right on the trail. Even in my backyard, they know to go to the edge of the woods out back. I almost never walk them on public sidewalks as I've already had the luxury of plenty of woods around me.
I remember when dog crap made its way into the local river because easy peasy’s let their dog crap over our local storm drains untill the town put little placards on the drains telling those that couldn’t figure it out on their own that anything other than rain water and natural run off is pollution.
“Flows to _ _ _ _ River,Dont Pollute”
storm drains in our city go directly to the processing plant.
