So, do you think Joan Jett was singing about Kavanaugh in "I Love Rock N' Roll"?
Her family had moved away to CA before 82, but she could've come back to visit friends only to discover the inspiration for her song.
Ok, well, probably not, but this stuff has me reminiscing about the time and place and I wanted to post a link to the tune.
Enjoy!
She’s gay, more likely she was singing about a girl.
Jett was performing the song in late 1980 or very early 1981. I heard her do it in Tallahassee Fl in a night club. She said they (the band) liked the song and it would probably be on an upcoming album. Besides, she didn’t write the song, wasn’t it released in the late ‘70s by another band?
Unforgettable song!
plausible
Nope but she recently caught flak because she still stands up for Songwriter producer Kim probably, who has been accused by one of the runaways committing rape. Kim got along with several members of the band up to his very last year. Those women even above age 50 now could not be in the same room together but they could each meet with Kim without hassle but they didn’t like each other. But the Internet throws a fit anytime someone steps to his defense, and Joan Jett recently came to his defense again even posthumously in the me too era
Yup...done by The Arrows in 1975. It was a guy singing about a girl, though.
The Arrows —> 1975
Just beat me......
Thanks for the name of the original band The Arrows. Jett & the Blackhearts toured with Iggy Pop and they played Tommy’s Deep South Music Hall in Tallahassee in late 1980. Quite a night, I went home with ears ringing. She came back on her own a few months later and played there again and I think that is when she did ‘I Love Rock & Roll’. She’s a genuine rocker and put most of the pansy hair bands of the 80s to shame.
Oh well, so much for that theory!
Iggy Pop. Now there’s a freakosarus.
Iggy was a very intense looking guy, sitting at one end of the bar with a whiskey bottle and shot glass watching opening acts. Some of his fans kept handing him pills. When he hit the stage, it was like nothing had affected him. His band was very tight, really showed up two local opening acts that did a couple of Iggy covers, frankly tighter musically than the Blackhearts who he followed onstage. He might be a wild man but he takes his performances seriously.
That brings back memories of the Dr. Demento radio show. Great fun from the early 80’s.
I saw her in Mankato, MN. Must have been in 1990 or 91. The venue was the MSU gym...no special lighting, just the bright fluorescent gym lights. That made the whole experience odd-hard to really get into the music when all the overhead lights are on. It wasnt sold out, it was fun but was a bit disappointing-didnt have a rock concert feel. Hard to believe it was only 8 years or so after I Love Rock and Roll was released. It felt like she was way past her prime.
Joan Jett would not have a much affiliation with Judge Kavanaugh, as he DOES give a damn about his bad reputation.
He’s so vain, he probably thinks that song is about him.
That was opportunistic humor, BTW.
