DAVENPORT, Iowa - Controversial testimony at the nation's capitol is getting some reaction here at home.
A local mental health counselor says she's seen the impact of the hearings for Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
Miriam Prichard says it took an emotional toll on her and some of her patients.
She says hearing the testimony from survivors can be traumatizing for other survivors.
Prichard teamed up with a Davenport church so people could reflect in a quiet space.
"What I've seen from survivors this past week is that people are just tired because they hear these stories and they hear people doubting Dr. Blasey Ford's story, they feel like they're being doubted all over again," Prichard says.
She says social media can also make it even more difficult to disconnect from tough topics.
"You want to stay informed because it's an important issue and you also want to protect yourself. And I think too many times, we go overboard with the being informed part and I think it's important to step back and say, 'Okay, if I watch one more interview or read one more post about this, is that really going to help me?" says Prichard.
Prichard says she plans to hold more safe space events this year.
That includes the day of the confirmation vote as well as the day after elections.
“So Miriam just assumes that Judge Kavanaugh is guilty? Or am I reading too much into it.”

2ndDivisionVet, if you’re reading too much into it, then so am I. It reads like SHE needs a really, really, BIG Safe Space for her own set of emotions. Sheesh!
I was a victim of acquaintance rape when I was 15. I think she is lying through her teeth. It is difficult to watch this b***** destroy the ability of actual victims to get someone to believe them.
These saps are so predictable but it is fuuuun.
Older Libs are trying to relive the ‘60s and ‘70s. Their kids were raised on Ritalin. This is a completely dangerous combination, on display daily.
“...more safe space events...”
Just keep the clintons, kennedys, sharptons and pretty much any libtards away.
That would be wise anyhow because there’s so much trash on TV already. The question arises in a case like Ford’s where the accusations don’t even fit the common patterns of sexual abuse. Her patients’ cases don’t look like Ford’s case. They shouldn’t fear being likened to Ford because it’s utterly implausible.
That’s true. But they have layers. The Useful Idiots are their dupes/tools.
It’s a devil’s attack not just on Judge K, but also on people who have genuinely suffered abuse.
Politics is a lousy arbiter of truth.
I’ve been seeing “I pooped today!” t-shirts a lot recently. Are they survivors?
The people who had the number tattoos from the death camps - definitely survivors.
Ah... does the bible state in vain that life and death are in the power of the tongue?
It is difficult to watch this b***** destroy the ability of actual victims to get someone to believe them.
Pussification of America.
My recommended safe-space is a closed garage with the engine running.
/eyeroll.
Can we get more “Barf Alert”s in headlines? It would be a public service.
“Women and minorities hardest hit...”
Was she and her patients this upset in 2008?
True.
YES.
She considers not that parishioners may be praying to the All Mighty for relief from the lies and corruption of our current political system and that the TRUTH may shine through like God’s glory and cleanse the wicked process that man has created.
Upset by what? That ushered in Heaven on Earth, don’t you remember?
