Joe Donnelly Moves From No To Maybe On Kavanaugh Vote
HotAir ^ | September 29, 2018 | Karen Townsend

As the Senate Judicial Committee gathered to vote Friday afternoon to move Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination for a vote in the Senate, word trickled out that Democrat Senator Joe Donnelly of Indiana was a no vote on Kavanaugh’s nomination. Donnelly is in a tough re-election race back home and Republicans hope to separate him from the herd of Democrats in lock-step opposition Judge Kavanaugh.

As we all know now, Senator Jeff Flake decided to lob a last-minute bomb into the committee’s proceedings by holding his yes vote hostage to a demand that the FBI investigate Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations. He put a time limit of no longer than a week for the delay. Republicans were forced to go along in order to have the votes to move the process out of the committee and onto the Senate floor.

But, a late afternoon headline in a northwest Indiana newspaper shines a glimmer of a doubt on Senator Donnelly’s commitment to a no vote. He told the newspaper’s editorial board that now he’s willing to wait for the FBI’s report before making a final decision. In other words, Donnelly has moved from a no vote to a maybe.

Donnelly is history if he votes no, and he damn well knows it.

Donnelly is history even if he votes "yes". He should vote for truth now.

If McConnell was smart he would have some of his yeses pretend to be ready to vote no until the very last second for the vote. That way these dems in tight races can’t game the system, Make them vote before they know their vote won’t matter.

A Dem who votes yes will lose any enthusiasm he has from the crazies. If they vote no it’s a much harder battle. I suspect they’ll vote no in the end because the crazies can guarantee a lose but the sanes cannot.

Folks:

For the last 48 hours I've been saying that the post-Thursday polls have almost certainly been an absolute disaster for the Democrats.

They want this confirmation vote done quickly -- in a bad way.

McConnell and Grassley have been masterful in the way they let this play out. Think of two things in particular:

1. The treatment of Kavanaugh by the Democrats has managed to accomplish something I didn't think would have been possible just a few months ago: It pissed off both the GOP establishment and the Trump "Deplorables."

2. The Democrats have managed to turn Kavanaugh into a VICTIM in this charade.

President Trump is in West Virginia to kick off the Republican Midterm Election Strategy ... which is basically just to drape those far-left mutants in the Democrat Party around the necks of every Democrat Senator running in a state Trump won in 2016.

Wasn’t that the point of the renewed investigation ....to help feel more comfortable in confirming Judge Kavanaugh?

No question......even Crazy Maisie Hirono said she'd vote yes AFTER the FBI report was in.

But......time will tell.

I think the timing of Donnelly’s first announcement is interesting. Note that the senators who have publicly stated their voting position so far are either conservative or liberal. The moderates have not done so yet. Typically in the past, Donnelly will state that he is undecided until the morning (or hours) of a vote. I think that Donnelly thought the committee vote would be a clean vote and that it would go to the senate floor immediately. That’s why he publically made his announcement yesterday. Now, Donnelly has to wait as much as a week and then be faced with a 7th FBI clearance report. ‘Moderate’ Joe is going to be iced for a week as people in Indiana will see what a lefty hack he is. I think this latest ‘flip-flop’ is exactly the result of his poor timing. And the people of Indiana will NOT BUY IT. Why? Because I am one of them.

If Donnelly votes against Kavanaugh then he’s basically doing it just to build his credentials for his next job as a Democrat lobbyist.

My understanding is that there are also Democrats who are furious over what is being done to this man.

Don’t know how many in total, but there are some out there.
