Which rifles do you know that are also cool pistols?
AR’s and AK’s of course! Whether you want it for plinking or home defense, an AR/AK pistol is doable, and yes you can build one as well.
In this segment we’re going to go over the popular AR/AK pistol, this is not the complete guide. This is to get you started if you’re planning on building or buying a complete AR pistol.
If you’re not familiar with the AR/AK pistol, lets cover a little bit on the current legalities…

Legal Pistol Stuff here
We're going to keep it short here.....Though it might look and function like a rifle, but thanks to the fact that AR-15 pistols don’t come built with a stock, they’re legally classified as pistols – giving them a full pardon from inconvenient NFA restrictions.

Things you should know about the AR/AK pistol:
The basic components of an AR pistol is going to be similar to an AR-15, here's a few key differences:

Some comments on Shouldering
Shouldering the AR pistol with a brace is a gray area which is close to a stock without changing the legal definition.
At the moment shouldering the AR pistol itself is ok with the ATF, until they change their mind on the ruling, enjoy while you can.

Here are some AR & AK Pistol thats out there:
-Palmetto State Armory 7.5″ AR-15 Pistol
-Springfield Saint AR-15 Pistol
-AK-47 Draco Pistol
-Century Arms C39 AK-47 - 100% American Made quality AK-47 pistol.

Here's the braces:
Shockwave Blade by KAK Industry
SBPDW by SB Tactical
Maxim Defense CQB Pistol PDW Brace - considered the Rolls-Royce of braces

One word. Why?

This is something that people with a lot of money to waste find interesting. I have limited space in my gunsafe and every single firearm there is useful and of top quality. Every single one also puts rounds downrange. I own zero safe queens.

Because some people want an SBR-equivalent without the $200 tax stamp, the 9 month wait or the registration of their firearm. AR pistols with braces are a solid alternative to the painful SBR process and, should SHTF, can be readily swapped with a real stock.

And that's really the only reason to own one. It gives you instant access to an SBR when the SHTF/apocalypse/collapse of society happens. One could easily swap the SBR upper to a lower with a stock resulting in a very adept SBR for close quarters shooting...but don't do this before the end of the rule of law, as it would put one in legal jeopardy.

Now that sir is a reasonable response. I’m not sure if that’s allowed on the internet.

My purist former match shooting self frowns on barrels shorter than 14.5 to 16 inches in cartridges that shine out to 500-600. If you’re shooting pistol distances, why not shoot pistol ammo and carry twice as much?

Unfortunately for me, you brought a valid argument to the table that I had not thought of. I still won’t get one because it doesn’t fill a niche that I need, but now I know why these are a thing.

The majority of mine are safe queens.

The historical provenance is what interests me, more than anything else.

Also consider subsonic cartridges that really SHINE in shorter barrels and with suppressors. I’ve fired some suppressed 10” 300Blackout pistols that are downright pleasant, while retaining impressive ballistics out to 300m.

Like you, however, I prefer to give my rifle cartridges at least 16” for the longer-range stuff.

Three of mine fit that historical provenance classification. The M1 Garand, the 1903A3, and the Model 1917 rifles. However, I shoot them regularly in milsurp matches. The Garand especially (a Danish lend/lease return with a brand new VAR barrel) shoots fantastic.

If Trump manages to get suppressors removed from class-3 designation, a .300 blackout upper is in my future. I would have it in at least a 14.5 with pinned/soldered muzzle device to get to 16. I’ve played with one and it’s a very nice combination.

If. But every time we get close, we get another shooting like the Florida high school and weak-kneed “republicans” go wobbly.
