Just finished binge watching the new series. I thought it was pretty well done. Sure made me want to kick some radical fundamental Muslim butt. Scenes from Paris with entire neighborhoods overrun with Muslims made me angry too. I recommend watching it if you get time.
I just watched the first episode.
If you have the read the books and seen the movies then you will be surprised, this ain’t the Jack Ryan you knew.
Basically the writers and producers threw out the back story of Ryan and Admiral Greer from the books and made up new stuff.
For instance James Greer is not a naval office and looks like a career CIA officer. Jack Ryan did not go to the Naval Academy, went to Boston College.
The plot and writing could have been so much better. I am going to give a little more time to see where it goes, but I can say they writers got a lot of basic details in character and plot wrong.
Was there “language” in the series...specifically using GDs, and JCs. Crude or foul language isn[t really a problem for us, but using the Lord’s name in vain spells a stop from us listening/viewing.
Not judging anyone else who doesn’t have a problem with this, I just like to know before we start because it’s going to get turned off the minute it starts.
That’s why we like the older mystery series on British TV, we almost never run into foul language. Inspector Morse, Lewis, DCI Chambers, the Lynley Mysteries, Foyle’s War, etc. Fun to watch mysteries that you can watch for an hour and a half and not run into this issue.
“Crude or foul language isn[t really a problem for us, but using the Lords name in vain spells a stop from us listening / viewing.”
My feelings exactly.
omg they made Greer into a MUSLIM..!!!
And they’re really muzzing it up.
Good overall but zero PC stuff..?
No, there’s a little PC stuff.
I didn’t really notice any of that. A bare boob or two was seen. Nothing pornographic though.
I think you’ll be okay.
On Episode 3. It’s okay. I’ll finish the first season.
Helps to keep in mind the book that introduced Jack Ryan to the world was... The Hunt for Red October.
Bottom line: someone paid a lotta money to Tom Clancy’s estate for the right to play with the characters. Ryan’s character is written okay, but so far I’m less than thrilled with Greer.
>>Im tempted to watch it all over again from the beginning. You know how we miss so much in the first viewing of a lot of shows and movies.
I watched 3 episodes so far. It’s more about the muzzies (especially the female muzzie hero) than Jack Ryan. Then, of course, James Greer is muzzie too. I’m going to keep going with the series, but a pattern is forming.
there was also an X-ray comment in Ep 3 that was interesting. It said that the Producers believed that the CIA was a professional, honest organization that does good, instead of the way it is usually portrayed in almost every other thing that comes from Hollywood. So, why the change of heart? Because the CIA is part of the Deep State and is a big part of the work being done to unseat Trump and return America to Progressive control.
Thanks for the recommendation. I will have to check it out then. I think action without suspense or a whodunit is boring. I need writing to go with my CGI.
You are welcome.
“omg they made Greer into a MUSLIM..!!!”
Complete with prayer beads.
Also...apparently Greer is in the doghouse with the CIA. Whattup wit dat? Did I miss that in the previous books/movies? And, he hasn’t been called “Admiral” once...did they un-include that in his resumé?
My take so far...50/50. And they sure pimped this series long enough. It’s almost like not showing the planting of the American flag on the moon.
Term Limits was written by Vince Flynn....so no.
I never read the books but my mom is a huge fan, I’ve started watching it with her.
It’s ok and I read a critical review by some lib idiot complaining about how it portrays America as the good guys.
But this Ryan doesn’t seem very....I don’t know.....I know he’s not supposed to be an action hero but he seems..meek..I’m not sure if that’s the right word. Maybe the actor just lacks gravitas. He bikes to work?
And this Greer character (I like the actor) being made a Muslim?!! I imagine that is pissing people off.
It seems even the better shows have PC crap written into them these days. It’s the writers, directors, and producers fault for allowing it. Freakin’ Hollyweird eh.
I don’t like it that Greer is a Muslim either. I like it even less when I find out key people in our government in real life are Muslims. Talk about the wolf guarding the hen house!
In the second episode the French cop says he comes across as a sheep but he (Jack Ryan) is really a wolf. I think she wants to jump his bones. I’ve read several of the books and Jack is written as a laid back office kind of guy in his younger years who is made into a reluctant hero. That’s kind of his thing.
Allowing those bodies in without making sure they were dead was a rookie mistake and I didn’t get the feeling the soldiers were rookies. Ryan should have taken the shot at the bad guy outside the building.
There are lots of rookie mistakes all through the series.
The trailer doesn’t reflect the actual show. Yes there is action, which is very well done, but Ryan is not a super physical hero. Just a former Marine.
In Paris police convoys to “problem” areas/suspects are very common. It is some kind of Euro thing. The Germans do it also.
I just finished it. A whiny, SJW metrosexual Jack Ryan just doesn’t do it for me.
The French *itch said something like “How can you work for government given everything they’ve done?”
I did not like Ryan’s response which seemed to acquiesce to her implication that we’ve been doing something wrong.
Trying to justify a John Brennan.....
Disappointed so far 3 episodes down
In the books Greer was a Navy Vice Admiral and the Deputy Director of Intelligence for the CIA.
This James Greer appears to be a career CIA case officer and not in the navy. They changed a lot of the back story in this series and I mean a lot.
Also for a character like Ryan who has seen serious action on combat they having him coming across as a amateur.
