Mitch McConnell has a warning for Democrats demanding copious documents on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh: Be careful what you wish for.
The Senate majority leader privately told senior Republicans on Wednesday that if Democrats keep pushing for access to upwards of a million pages in records from President Donald Trumps high court pick, hes prepared to let Kavanaughs confirmation vote slip until just before Novembers midterm elections, according to multiple sources.
Delaying the vote past September would serve a dual purpose for McConnell, keeping vulnerable red-state Democrats off the campaign trail while potentially forcing anti-Kavanaugh liberals to swallow a demoralizing defeat just ahead of the midterms. Senators said McConnell believes the Democratic base will be deflated if they raise hopes of defeating Kavanaugh only to lose just days before the election.
Not sure how effective this strategy would be if Republicans already have the votes to confirm Kavanaugh without Dems McConnell is trying to force red state Dem senatorial candidates to vote against Kavanaugh just before the election to damage their chances in Trump states. They will just also vote to confirm knowing their vote makes no difference to curry favor with Trump supporters in their state.
The interesting part is that he would force the Senate to stay operating during the campaign season ... so Dem Senators up for re-election can either show up to vote, or campaign
pick one ... brutal
(of course, remember this is probably a negotiating tactic, he just wants to get the Republican Senators on board at this point)
“I wish he would put pressure on the republican senators, Rubio and Scott, to get their heads out of their asses and confirm the Judge for the 9th Circus.”
Amen.
No truer words were ever spoken
“remember this is probably a negotiating tactic”
I very much dislike the Rinos, and yes, we need to replace them. I am not a Mitch fan either. However, Politician means ‘many faces’ and like it or not, they have to please many people. Hopefully, Mitch can hold this together and get us another judge to MAGA. If he can do this for country and the President, we might have a chance.
If we could just tame the Deep State and the media and allow the 3 branches to operate in their spheres, we could have a government to of which to be proud.
I believe McConnell was double crossed or lied to by Harry Reid regarding supreme court previously. And I think he is still furious about it.
Otherwise he has been less than caring about Trump or republican agenda.
He does get an A on this issue.
I'm not a big fan of McConnell but if he gets these judges through he will go down a Republican hero in my book.
Big whoop. The Dems will whine that there’s no way to review all that information, get the MSM on their side and watch Mitch fold.
To be compared to Chuck Schumer is one of the greatest insults I can recall having leveled at me.
Every so often our enemies have the same idea we do. Anyway, It’s my idea too.
Ah, now I understand. Little slow here...
why wait until then? everyone’s had their say about this nominee already... he looks pretty good imho... but everyone’s had their say, its time to wrap things up
Pelousy wouldn’t even let her own partisans read the Obamacare bill before forcing them to vote for it.
nobody’s ever gonna read a million pages of stuff about a court nominee
the demands for all this stuff are, therefore, just an attempt to stall the vote until such time as the commie-nazi leftists can figure out how to bring articles of impeachment against PDJT
Harry Reid is the one that set his butt on fire over judges and obviously MaC can hold a grudge.
amazing that people confront people out to dinner and such. How do they expect them to respond.
