First lady Melania Trump makes statement on family separations as protests grow
NBC News ^ | June 17, 2018 | Daniella Silva

First lady Melania Trump uncharacteristically waded into a fierce debate around immigration on Sunday, pushing for bipartisan cooperation to end the separation of migrant children from their parents at the border.

“Mrs. Trump hates to see children separated from their families and hopes both sides of the aisle can finally come together to achieve successful immigration reform," according to a statement from her spokeswoman. "She believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart.”

The first lady's statement stood in contrast to comments made by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who implemented the "zero tolerance" policy that has led to the separation of families at the border. The president has also repeatedly blamed Democrats opposed to his immigration reform proposal, falsely crediting an anti-trafficking law that passed unanimously in 2008 under President George W. Bush for the separations.

The detention of children apart from their parents is a result of the policy mandated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and there is no law that requires family separation. As such, congressional action is not necessary to stop it. Sessions has said the intent is to eventually prosecute everyone who crosses the border illegally....

I contend that every single day that an American child is immersed in a current American school, they are being ‘separated’ from their parents.

Back when Harry Reid was Senate majority leader, Rush made the following comment...

“If illegal aliens voted Republican, Harry Reid would build a railroad deep into the heart of Mexico and he would send all the illegal aliens there one way.” Or words to that effect.

I frankly don’t give a damn if the illegals have their kids taken from them. Any parent that puts their kids at risk by taking them along to break into another country is probably not fit to take care of them anyways. As long as the whole family is deported, I am happy.

All from the media wind chamber coordinated with Democrat assholes.

They did this to get Bush Senior to raise taxes in 1990. Cost the GOP the off year election, which is what this is about.

Her statement pretty much says what PDJT said to the press on the lawn a couple days ago. He “hates it”, too. He wants enough Dems to cross the aisle and “work together” to get the problem solved.

I don’t see her contradicting that.

Dems are suddenly the party of Family Values.

This from the people who insist that there are 136 genders.

If your parents jump at the chance to put their kids in danger, then they should be taken away.

and there is no law that requires family separation

And I do believe that is another falsehood. Children can stay no longer than 20 days in detention. After that they are sent to other family here in the country or to a sponsor family.

She should have stuck to silence. Her comment, any comment at all, on this or any other matter of substance that is not in perfect synch with that of the President is inappropriate. Uncalled for.

First they tell us that biological nuclear families are a continuing criminal enterprise against single mothers and homosexual “husbands” and “wives,” then they tell us that we must let in millions of third-world welfare parasites because otherwise we would break up the sacred biological nuclear family.

The hypocrisy of the left knows no bounds.

Why can’t they stay in Mexico? The Mexican government has no heart. Oddly enough, you will never hear this plea from the enemy of the people, the media.

Crickets. Nobody ever talks about how maddeningly corrupt the governments in Central America are either. Yet their govt officials get none of the blame for the border problem. Why do you think so many people feel the need to escape those countries in the first place? Maybe it's time we start holding their governments accountable to their own countries.

This is definitely problematic.
Mrs Trump may be a classy nice lady but If she decided that she is a co-president, that is an experience that we have been through and it has been ugly since.

What she says and what she thinks is great so long as she doesn't believe it has any influence on me. In fact, if she continues to do that I will expect her to run for office and I can vote no.

She can live with her heart, but just STFU about it.
Same with the delusional Ivanka.

I will never vote for Democratic/GOPe criminal wanabes.
We were promised a half dozen reforms for the criminal invasion and no "compromise" is acceptable
Trump better deliver, or go down fighting.

Compromise is lovely in the abstract, But never when it means giving an inch to enemies domestic of all parties to unConstitutional cultural suicide.

Diplomacy may be the art of compromise, but only if both parties or groups are rational and mentally healthy.

Such is NOT the current condition.

In the cases of the people that have crossed the border and requested asylum, they have not committed a crime.

Of course they have.
All sovereign countries can choose to grant legitimate asylum if sought and granted BEFORE crossing the border. Even children can understand that.

Laws that can be ignored with impunity or not subject to some form of punishment are unnecessary laws.

Why do we need any of those? Life is hard enough without having laws interpreted by self-appointed delusional nut jobs.

That's why legal systems exist. D'OH!!

“That’s why legal systems exist. D’OH!!”

From U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

“To obtain asylum through the affirmative asylum process you must be physically present in the United States. You may apply for asylum status regardless of how you arrived in the United States or your current immigration status.”

No. Mrs. Trump with her usual grace and charm is requesting all sides to throttle back and resolve this intelligently.

Unfortunately, emotionally and "intelligently' are antithetical.

When the emotional rules, justice is compromised and the rule of law vanishes. No written law can tolerate the emotional, and no law has yet existed which defines, arbitarily, exceptions not based on facts.
