Here's proof that us folks in the U.S. arent the only idiots when it comes to wildlife interaction, a man in India was reportedly mauled to death when he tried to take a "selfie" of himself with a bear.
According to an Indie article, Prabhu Bhatara was returning from a wedding with some others when they stopped for a potty break.
Seeing an injured bear, he decided it would be a good idea to get close to it and take a "selfie".
There's a video, that shows the bear chewing and shaking this guy. There was quite a crowd there, but I saw only one person and a dog that attempted to help the poor guy.
If the entire crowd had rushed the bear, chances are good that it would have stopped its attack. The only creature really trying to save this man was a stray dog.
How sad.
While the carnage was goin on the fellow passengers who watched the entire act, were busy shooting the incident on their mobile phones instead of trying to rescue him. See the full bear mauls man selfie story here.
Here are a couple clips from that Black Bear episode...

I remember reading the writings of the Lewis and Clark Expedition as they first saw a bear. I remember they were in awe of it’s strength. A killer.
I have a recurring nightmare about this.
In it, I come across an accident with a car on fire and a woman inside screaming and looking out the window horrified as a bunch of idiots stand outside the door taking videos of her with their cell phones.
The dream sometimes ends with me opening the door and dragging out of the car and then going after the cell phone morons with a baseball bat
I guess he won’t be riding on top of trains anymore.... the other guy either.
Gene pool improved x 2.
Even a stray dog had more sense than this guy.
Your call to customer service is going unanswered.
And then there is Timothy Treadwell.........(and sadly, his girlfriend, too)
“There was quite a crowd there...”
Someone in the crowd yelling to Prabhu...
“Do not worry, Prabhu! We will make sure this gets on the internet!”
Cleaning the gene pool one moron at a time.
A lesson in evolution. Stupidity isnt usually a successful strategy.
If you mess with me when I am in pain I might mall you too.
Bears are driven by curiosity, hunger, and fear.Any one of these can trigger an attack.
The best weapon to use on a bear is a rifle or 12 gauge shot gun with a rifled slug, but in a pinch a pole will do to keep the bear back, you poke, the bear stands up, you run.then repeat.Even better is a spear with a knife blade tied to a poll, and here is the best knife ( Cold Steel Bushman) to have in that regard:
The knife can be pole mounted locked on using a dry wall screw.
You can kill a bear with this as a spear, poke, bear stands up you let him have it in the heart or bread basket, thrust deep. On canoe trips its good to have a knife like this mounted on a strong straight spruce pole about 7 feet long. It can double as a pole for canoeing.
