There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns the ones we don't know we don't know. - Donald Rumsfeld
Trenton McKinley of Mobile, Alabama, suffered severe brain trauma from a freak dune buggy accident in March. Doctors told his parents he was braindead. They said that if he survived hed be in a vegetative state. So they signed the organ donation papers.
After days of being brain dead, his parents signed papers to donate his organs to five separate children needing transplants.
She continued: The next day I got a call...they canceled the final brain wave test...right before they hooked him up his hand moved. Then his feet...so they looked at his eyes and they were back...he had blue eyes...now they are green with small white specks like glitter... People
The Helix Nebula, created at the end of the life of a Sun-like star.
they say when you look upon God pigment changes and my baby was in heaven for a whole day .he is a miracle.
Trenton faces a long, long road to complete recovery as he relearns to walk and deals with additional surgeries on his cranium but his memory is intact and he can read, write and do math problems with his new green glitter specked eyes.
At the time Rumsfeld made his sage comment, the MSM went into a frenzy of hysterical mockery but ultimately the joke is on them, he was right: science is never settled. Because there will always be unknown unknowns. Remember, we didnt make this planet, we just live here. Or to put it in terms that Leftists might better understand: we didnt build this universe by ourselves, Somebody else did that for us
My God! Its full of stars

Because there will always be unknown unknowns.

But that is not acceptable to our human condition. It means we are not in control..................................
Who can name the movie referenced, “Oh my God; it’s full of stars!”
Hint: the quote is actually more central to the sequel.
The phrase “unk-unk”, although frequently attributed to Rumsfeld, has been frequently used in aerospace, at least back to the 1960s. I suppose he made it popular elsewhere, though.
Saw both movies. I enjoyed the second, actually, despite the critics.
2001 A Space Odyssey
All the best for him.
But dark matter to explain gravity is still unprovable.
I gave a presentation to the executive leadership team where I work. Part of the presentation dealt with unknown unknowns.
My Power Point side had the Rumsfeld quote and a phot of me and Sec. Rumsfeld.
My boss was in the room and I heard “You really went there” under his breath.
Heck yea. I have a phot of me with a member of my short list of personal hero’s, of course I’m going there.
You should read the books..........they go beyond.................

There are 4 in the series, 2 have not yet been made into movies..................
Thanks for sharing that story.
A friend of mine was hit by a car in December. Similar deal. Traumatic Brain Injury. The last I heard, he’s somewhat conscious most days and has been trying to mouth words. That was about a month ago so maybe there’s some improvement.
Meant to finish with God is Good.
As well you should.
Several possibilities:
1) Earth is the ONLY place in the entire cosmos where intelligent, self-aware life has come to be.
2) Intelligent life — and presumably civilizations — are numbered as the uncountable grains of sand on all the beaches, and far, far more.
3) If (2), and assuming fairly random evolving times, after the second and third generation stars came into being, fused the heavier elements into being as they exploded and then spilled their guts out for the forth generation of stars to form from the dust and gas, and see life and civilizations come to be on their orbiting worlds — this entire process takes millions and billions of years. This means if life is truly common and widespread, then the raw probability of many civilizations arising millions — if not billions of years BEFORE ours did — is quite high.
4) Why don’t we hear them “on the air” with our most sensitive and sophisticated radio telescopes? Easy one. They are way beyond anything as crude as “radio,” and are as detectable by us as our communications are detectable by ants.
5) It’s simply easier to believe “they” ARE “out there,” as not.
6) Even so, SOMEbody had to be first. Maybe it IS us...
All way beyond my pay grade...
Smell the flowers while there is Time...
But that is not acceptable to our human condition. It means we are not in control..................................
That has always been the way.
To know so much and to control so little.
Someone famous once said that.
Someone famous once said that.
Unnngh?
The movie is “2010: The Year We Make Contact”. That quote is never actually uttered in “2001: A Space Odyssey”. It is used in the book 2001.
God does amazing things routinely.
