A 28-year-old man who suffered from postoperative pain was convinced that he could heal himself through swimming in cold water.
Through this technique, he was able to cure his pain when nothing else worked. His experience and the associated report are published in the BMJ Case Reports.
The man behind this story is 28 years old. While suffering from excessive facial redness, he underwent an operation (endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy) that cut off the triggering nerves in his chest.
Although the operation went perfectly, he subsequently suffered severe and...

Thanks for the clarification. BTW, Tear gas works good for clearing sinus problems which is an odd thing to happen.
no kidding. learned that in boot camp. It doesn’t last either.
Just had three ligaments repaired in left rotator cuff. Ice and Motrin seem to be the only thing that alleviates the pain to some degree.
Theyve been sending home ice pack machines (not sure what theyre called) after surgery for quite awhile now.
Thanks my post #24. Forgot what they were called.
I sometimes get joint pains in my hands. I find if I immerse them in a bowl of ice water, for longer than you’d like to tolerate, the pain goes away - doesn’t come back for a long time.
Im doing the Wim Hoff Breathing each day. It is so energizing, as oxygen floods the body. After my second round of breathing each morning, I can hold my breath for more than 2 minutes, which is part of the process.
Havent tried his cold techniques yet...
Shrinkage.
Very neat. I only became familiar with him last year, but I have never really delved into the breathing seriously. Need to make a commitment to try it.
Significant Shrinkage
When I had a MRSA infection, because my BP was so low when I went into the ER, they could not give me pain killers for the pain of the infection.
So I used ice packs and realized then that ice packs, while kind of a nuisance, were VASTLY underrated for controlling pain.
They were very effective in controlling the pain.
First, it is easy to do. He has a smart phone app I use. It walks you through everything.
Second, the amount of energy and well-being I have all day is amazing.
I will look for the app. Thank you.
I have chronic dry eye and just saw a cornea specialist the other week, as my optho was afraid something else was going on.
Thankfully, as painful as it is, it is only dry eye. He told me to continue to use the special eye drops I have, but to put them in the fridge to help with the discomfort.
You learn something new every day.
I have not yet started the breathing technique but I have been taking cold showers for eight months or so and have lost a lot of fat from my torso, dropped two inches off my pants size and eliminated nearly all my chronic aches and pains. Cold water in the shower hardly even feels cold to me now. I take a hot shower first to get clean and then reach behind my back and turn the hot water completely off all at once leaving only the cold water on and I spend from six to ten minutes under the pure cold water. My blood pressure has dropped about twenty five points.
A quick trip over Niagra Falls in the winter would be really chilly and probably clean out your colon too.
I’m not certain of the science behind it, but I can attest that cold water over on an injury does help with pain relief following surgery. At least it did for my son. When he was 16, he tore the labrum in his shoulder and needed surgery. Prior to surgery, we met with the surgeon to talk about expectations. He said that he would prescribe strong pain meds to help with post-op pain. He also mentioned that some patients have opted for using a cold therapy machine in lieu of pain meds. That is, a machine that has a wrap around the shoulder with ice cold water flowing over the area on and off all day. We chose the machine over meds. My son used this machine(following all recommended instructions) for the first week after surgery without the need for pain meds and fully recovered from the injury.
You owe me a new monitor. :) LMAO
Very interesting!
Do you attribute your weight loss to the cold water alone?
One of the most interesting threads on healing techniques I have seen in a long time.
Thanks to everybody who contributed!
