Got me A Russian Blue
N/A

Posted on 02/02/2018 8:11:09 AM PST by CodeJockey

My wife adopted this beautiful little kitten this past summer. A friend of hers came to visit the other day and she told us she believed out little cat was a Russian Blue.

Never heard of that animal. She is very well mannered. Waves her tail like a dog. Great companion to our Black Lab/Border Collie mix.

I'm starting to call her Ruskie Blue. (Hope the FBI is not listening) Anyone else familiar with this breed?

Yes, they are very smart, gentle and very trainable. I would almost give my eye teeth for one. Seriously!

That 4th cat is a dog.

Just saying.

We have an identical cat that we got as a kitten. It was eating out of a dumpster when some vet school students found it at Topsail Beach in NC. Somehow we ended up with it. It doesn’t meow as much as it cries at you with a long extended cry.

Try telling her that. Had her neutered or spayed (which ever) when she was younger. I believe she thinks she is the cats mother.

I had a girl that looked just like yours. She went on to the next life a few weeks ago after nearly two decades here. I never knew if she was a Russian Blue or a British Shorthair. I suspect the former.

They are very intelligent and as someone else posted, very trainable (who is training who is often a matter for debate).

I don’t know if it is a facet of the breed, but she could not tolerate commercial food (would vomit it up routinely). I believe the breed is susceptible to certain diseases as well.

The best companion. You are very blessed!

Oh, and the fourth photo isn’t a cat (unless in clever disguise)

Grey. Probably carries a recessive for Siamese.

I think those cats are so beautiful (and easy going.).
My cat is pretty - but a little demanding of me.

Be careful of collusion between her and the dog.

Tom and Joyce Barnaby took care of their daughter’s Russian Blue kitten during an episode of “Midsomer Murders.” The cat’s name was Kilmouski.

I had a neutered miniature pinscher who defended our yard viciously inspite of his small stature. One day he was rabidly barking at the back of the shed and when I went out I found a litter of four kittens with their eyes not yet opened.

I brought Goliath back in hoping the momma would come and move her kittens but the next morning they were still there.
We adopted them and bottle fed them till we found homes for them. The amazing thing was that Goliath would pick them up by the scruff and carry them to the heat registers in what ever room I was in for the 12 weeks we had them.

I guess our dogs were confused?
