Not every college student I have ever taught was really college material, motivated enough to succeed, or even enjoyed being in college. Some could have benefited from attending a trade school or a technical college
A Lucrative Technical School or a Four-Year College Degree? The Ideologies that killed more than 100 million people last century are being praised at our universities today. - Turning Point USA
It is becoming increasingly difficult to find a skilled technician to fix anything. Everything is disposable something breaks down, lets buy a new one. There are fewer and fewer technical and trade schools and, even if there were more, American students are not interested in learning a trade. They have been conditioned by society and by their parents that, unless they get a four-year college degree, anything else is not worth their effort and time.
I’d seriously consider studying abroad. A lot of European universities, are offering all-English curricula. And it’s not that expensive.
Plus, I would think, an employer would be impressed with someone who took the initiative and went out of their comfort zone, plus European universities, albeit liberal, still tend to focus on academics.
College is not for everyone.
Plumbers and electricians and mechanics make good money too.
Tech school and a lucrative career during your 20’s and early 30s, then Liberty University and a 4 year degree that glorifies God and not Marx to set you up for your middle age management career, or to prepare you to properly run your own business where you take on apprentices and profit from their work.
Become a lineman.
PhDs need plumbers, plumbers don’t need PhDs.
Here’s a question for you.
Is it more likely that a Rocket Scientist will call a Plumber to fix something, or a Plumber will call a Rocket Scientist to fix something?
I did 2 years in a technical school studying electronics. After 4 years in the Air Force and rising up through the ranks in a half dozen jobs, I retired a few years ago as a Senior Network Engineer. Once an employer finds out you can do the job, it doesn’t matter if you have a nice degree.
Which lucrative technical school? Most of them are only lucrative for themselves.
You hit that nail right on the head.
not that easy
Well in the case of UF, that wouldn't have been too hard to do the last few years.
I have been saying this for YEARS.
We need a 2-track post-HS system that is EQUAL — 1 track leads to college/university. The other into the trades. The trade schools should get scholarships. loans, etc.
LOL
Enter the utility company at any position, prove your worth, then apply to the next line school.
With many college graduates unemployed or underemployed, it would have been better for them to have attended trade school.
Defensive or offensive lineman?
“Once an employer finds out you can do the job, it doesnt matter if you have a nice degree.”
In larger companies they have a hard time paying somebody without a degree what they would pay for the same job if you had the degree. It’s a liability issue. If somebody with a degree finds out that you got the job and the pay and they didn’t the company can be sued. Especially if there can be alleged racism or sexism. Frequently, though, the company will pay for the degree.
For the county? :-)
