Remington finally just went and did it, they implemented the “DM” into their 870 model shotgun, that is the “detachable magazine”. It was coming sooner than later. The magazine holds 6 rounds and functions just like any mag on an AR.
If you’re an AR guy/gal and wanted to get into shooting a shotgun but shied away from it due to no magazine operation.
Remington can now be up on the pedestal along with other magazine fed rifles. Whether you’re into hunting or the home defense type, this “DM” is the real deal for Remington 870 shotguns.

I’ve got a 870 with a pistol grip, factory 18” barrel, and a recoil absorbing stock.
It’s fine for shooting self defense shells out of it, which are not magnum, but if I shoot magnum buckshot out of it, Holy Jesus!
The pistol grip does fine, but the upward recoil is so strong that you simply cannot maintain a grip on the forend. That barrel will lift up out of your hand a couple of inches every single time.
I got to get me a forend with a handle on it.
All that being said, it’s still incredibly satisfying to shoot it.

Personally, I think people get too carried away with overly fancy or tactical shotguns. A basic Remington 870 pump or Mossburg 500A pump with an 18 inch barrel will do everything you need at a very reasonable price. If you want it for hunting get a longer barrel. They’ve been around forever and stood the test of time.

Depends on the cartridge used. I wouldn’t use magnum loads for a pistol grip shotgun.

They did something like that on sons of guns some years back. They hooked the gas tubes from ARs to gas keys of bolts in a rotating pattern. Kinda hard for a pump gun, but we COULD take some DI automatic shotguns and do that
