MILWAUKEE, WI Penzeys Spices CEO Bill Penzey, Jr. is learning firsthand how blasting President Donald Trump is good for his bottom line.
On July 6, Penzeys Spices gave away free Mexican Vanilla Extract (with free shipping) in honor of Trump's dubious comments made in reference to Mexican immigration and his continued desire to build a definitive border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.
As Penzey learned, in just one day, his saw more orders placed than in the first 17 days of July last year combined. A 1,600 percent jump in sales caused such a stir, they had to replenish their inventory levels - just to keep up with the demand.

The dubious comments made by Trump came on July 6, 2015, when Trump is credited with saying "Likewise, tremendous infectious disease is pouring across the border," in reference to Mexican migrants entering the U.S.
"That form of intentional racism designed to stoke fear and anger among voters should have raised huge red flags as to why this was not a candidate fit for the highest office in the land. For reasons we have yet to get to the bottom of, those red flags were never raised, and for that we are sorry," Penzey wrote on his company's Facebook page this week.
As you can see by the two examples of tweets below, Penzey's politically-themed campaign has drawn the support of those who don't like Trump, and ire among his supporters.

Yes, the price has gone up quite a bit; however, like you, I wouldn’t buy or even take for free, any such product from Mexico !
I have chives and lavender as well.
I use the lavender for sachets and don’t really use the chives.
Won’t do mint though.
It’s SO invasive.
I use the dried lavender in the linen closets ( in old potpourri containers ) and make sachets out of it too.
The chives are becoming a bit much and they need to be thinned out. There's no way I can used it all, but the plants do look pretty when they bloom.
Giving away FREE stuff is good business?
LOL, only for a liberal devoid of math skills.
I never bought from them (thought they were overpriced, no matter what the quality was). So I sadly can’t boycott!!! I can just say I am ;)
thanks for the heads up, former BW. I’m not good at remembering your new monikor! And Howdy to Jane!
“Wont do mint though.
Its SO invasive.”
LOL, plant some lemon balm and your mint will be wiped out! I’m am ‘trying’ to get my spearmint to grow, but the lemon balm that came with the house is a pesky little weed. I finally isolated the one wee mint plant left, separated by cinderblocks, and it is finally doing well without the bullying from the lemon balm.
The basil, oregano, thyme, etc are elsewhere on the property so I don’t worry about the mint being invasive, BTW.
LOL oddly, sometimes I wish I had kept my original name—bushwon, but I just got so irritated with people assuming I loved Jeb, and W. endorsing the media, etc. that I had to change it...Just remember V2 is version 2...I had to use that because 13 years ago, someone had posted one sentence...nothing since...Ugh...
Anyway, I am same bushwon and I thought you would find this whole issue interesting given your interest in spices and spice business...
Wonder if there is room on the planet for a pro-Trump spice business? ;)
~Freeper formerly known as bushwon ;)
Oh I was wondering about the v2 part. Thought you might reinvent yourself later as v3...
That’s understandable about the Bush thing. Knowing you, I knew that wasn’t the case! If you want to go back you could always use your tag line to say it was an old screename made when bush beat gore. Of like you do now, include it in every post.
I hope there’s room for. Pro-Trump spice business! MINE!! LOL.
I am as we speak ramping it up. I purchased some equipment so I guess I’m committed to seeing it through. I could lose thousands (but still get to keep the great kitchen equipment) or break even or hopefully make a small profit. We will see! I’ll be online and open by the end of the year - we can use the tax break this year. I still have this HUGE garden to deal with this summer, so fall will be the optimum time to put everything together. In the meantime I’ll learn the equipment, retest my recipes, remodel the kitchen with help, and find the cheapest/best suppliers.
