The forum was slow all day yesterday and now it won't load the first page even though I've set the number to 20.
Is the bandwidth at maximum?
I agree with you but my main beef with JimRob is that we were essentially doing what FaceBook does 20 years ago- JimRob should be as rich as Suckerberg.
This site has millions of readers and essentially no changes in programming in 15 years.
JimRob always said he wouldn’t take advertizing (and the $billions of dollars that come with it) because he didn’t want to sell out to ‘the man’ ... But we LIKE capitalism here, don’t we?
T*ts up.
I'm with you on this. I make my observations with the full expectation The Robinsons would want to know if their system is functioning correctly or not. Oddly, some people seem to take that as implicit criticism of some sort, I don't know why.
That said, I have also long thought there is something malicious going on from the "enemy". What makes me wonder is that the real problems seem to occur at critical times (during the election, for example) but Occam's Razor always brings me back to the explanation that the servers are operating marginally and can meet the demands during normal traffic, and heavy traffic pushes it over the edge.
But I did get very suspicious during the election.
For me it loads fine with Google Chrome, but not with Safari.
I don’t want him to take advertising. We do like capitalism, but money comes with strings, and advertisers, as we all know, bring strings.
I appreciate the lack of it.
To put my money where my mouth is, I will make an additional contribution tonight when I get home...:)
When I change the Brevity feature from Text to Headers, it loads fine.
FR is largely broken for me right now at 0730 ET. I can, with persistence click into a thread and post as I am now, but loading pings simply doesn’t load the full pages.
I am only on here because I am stubborn, and I love the site...:) Any other site that behaved in this fashion would not get more than a few tries before giving up for the day.
The issue is NOT a browser issue, it is only one of two things:
1.) Free Republic server issue
2.) Internet issue local to where the FR servers are.
Those are the only two choices.
I have long suspected interference.
If I were rich, I’d fund an investigation.
I agree. I think it may be prudent for Jim to consider taking ads from reliable conservative sources.
Someone has posted exactly what one of the problems is and how to fix it. Has texas in his name or “ tx’...Maybe Txhurl.....cant remember
I am also getting partial page loads — even my old method of stopping and reloading using the browser isn’t wo
Definitely profile related. If I log out the sidebars load every time. Logged in not so much.
Totally agree. I, too figure evil, low life scum hackers would do anything to slow down or damage FR. aaaaaaaach.
No pop ups here, no ads.. please everyone become a monthly donor or just please donate. Life without FR would be rather boring.
Everything is working fine for me. . .except the https someone was talking about and I didn’t realize it was on there. I was up super early this morning and I was having major troubles with Firefox or Foxfire (whatever it is) and before logging on to FR, I decided to start my morning again with IE. Considering the fact that we don’t know the true stripes of today’s so-called conservatives . . .I vote for keeping the anti-capitalism venue for this site for now! :)
I like this site, but it does seem strange that for donations in excess of 400,000 a year, you would think this would not be an issue.
Hmmm...
We're in Jim's living room.
FR works for me in HEADER MODE, but not TEXT MODE.

Same here! It does seem to be profile related. Anytime I check my "Pings" the response time just lags and lags and lags. If I log out and just view the forum FR is quite zippy.
I don't know if it's a bad index on the Username somewhere, a corrupt index, missing index or something completely different. It does however seem (to me...) to be related to profile names/user names.
“I don’t know if it’s a bad index on the Username somewhere, a corrupt index, missing index or something completely different”
I’m going with “something completely different”, i.e., monitoring by a third party staffed by Obama ees that Trump hasn’t fired yet.
