Trump Close to Signing Bill Into Law to Make it Easier to Fire Folks at the Failing Veterans Affairs
IWB ^ | Robert Carbery

The crippled and corrupted Department of Veterans Affairs is the ultimate evidence of why government-run healthcare will never work.

The Republican-held House of Representatives passed the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017 on Tuesday 386 to 55. This is a breath of fresh air during these divisive days in that poor performing and incompetent government workers are going to be held accountable, assuming President Trump signs the bill into law.

The Senate passed the bill on June 6th and Trump is expected to sign it into law, tweeting last week that “we can’t tolerate substandard care for our vets.” But the federal government is an immense, colossal, and slow-moving entity with teeming bureaucracies that care little for the taxpayers funding their very existence, instead doing everything they can to protect their own.

Finally, something from IWB that is worth repeating.

How much revenue does this “click” generate?

Recently a long term employee of mine mentioned that he was visiting the VA to update his status and medical condition. I asked if I could accompany him - out of my interest in the VA’s issues. I will say this - eternal, epic, monumental cluster f. The operation is unbelievable and the minutia of regs is deep and wide.

My local VA operation actually has a good rep - not sure why. Others must just be complete hell holes.

It’s about time.

Too many federal employees do not fear loss of job. They got their job (Pay check) and benefits (annual leave, sick leave, holiday pay and retirement).

And if you mess with them, they phony up some OWCP claim (Office of Workers Compensation Program) another give me that from the FECA, (Federal Employees Compensation Act). OH, my aching back, give me that.

This comes from personal experience. I nearly lost my career for just suggesting to a team-mate to consider the training opportunities being offered. I got slapped with an EEO charge so fast. (equal employment opportunity)

Vets from my era have criticized the suggestion but VA hospitals should be done away with, to be replaced by a VA insurance coverage policy good at any clinic or hospital in the US.
The VA hospital system is a poster child for Obamacare. Why didn’t anyone see it ?

Go Trump go!

He’s the president I’d been hoping for since Reagan.

I worked at the VA for about 22 years. From what I saw, there were plenty of people getting fired. Stealing money, stealing drugs, padding the time card. Not sure where this narrative started about VA employees not getting fired. I will maintain, however that the right employees are not getting whacked, the execs who cause the most trouble. They have the swagger to cover really well, and they do.

In 1991 there were 900 employees at my facility. Today there are 4000 approximately. Not sure what they do besides visit. Obama and company stacked the payroll. This at a time when our WWII and Korean war vets are dwindling. Scandalous!

Plus, don’t they “own their jobs”? I’ve heard that they don’t get fired because technically a fed employee owns the job he’s in for some reason.

Now, why would the President stop with the VA? He needs to make order applicable across the Executive Branch to get rid of all the obstructionists that are trying to bring him down
