Pardon my butting in, but I think Noble's thought is that the Trump/Comey event risks becoming the main event, when it is merely a sideshow.

I agree with that principle. I don't, however, think that the formal complaint will suck up much oxygen. Even if it did, subsequent events can move any Trump v. Comey story immediately into the memory hole. If Lynch is indicted for obstruction, for example, the Trump/Comey fight disappears.

We ought to also throw into that calculus, advancing the legislative and regulatory agendas. Those actions affect the public at large. Draining the swamp does not.

Under the newly announced Comey Rule, is any FBI agent now permitted to prepare a memo during office hours on an FBI computer, about a meeting related to his service, and then leak that memo to the media through an anonymous friend, or does that just apply to FBI Directors?

Well, you are right about FBI doing a lot of illegal things.

So, in your opinion, did the FBI commit a crime when they released the handwritten notes of the FBI agent on Pat Kennedy? IIRC, some of that info was redacted.

Could be. I like to know Jim’s reasoning on some things. He comes up with some interesting ideas.

Wouldn’t this ‘leaking’ be a felony??

President Trump had Comey’s number from the get go and he gave him the rope to hang himself. The President set Comey up, where after their meeting he was lulled into a false sense of confidence that he was safe in office and all those incriminating records in his office were also safe. Boom! Sessions and Trump strike when he is out of town and now they have all the goods. You can put money on the fact that Comey would not have disclosed his schlepping the memo to the NY Times through his friend unless he knew there were records of this crime in the scooped up office material. There is also much more in this mother load yet to be revealed that will prove Comey’s disloyalty to the President and the Country. Comey knows he was badly out maneuvered by the President, of all people, who he stupidly thought was a dumbo, and now he can only squeal like a stuck pig, calling the President a liar, etc.

It was within Comey's purview

Then why did he do it in a way to mask his identity? What about intent?

I'd like to see Trump's team go after Loretta Lynch. Reframing an investigation as a "matter", and Comey not reporting that interference? That's chilling.

Me too. He's quite full of insight. My impression of his basis on this point is a post he made earlier today, in another thread. I'm not trying to put words in his mouth, just giving informed speculation of why he thinks lodging a formal complaint against Comey is unwise.

I think what needs to happen is that Trump needs to call a press conference and PARDON Comey for the numerous crimes “it is looking like he committed during his tenure”. Make it dramatic, magnanimous, and a show that only Donald can put on.
Make sure everyone knows it is time to move on from the sordid past of Hillary and Obama and Comey. Say you do not want to waste resources on going after them.

Close by saying that Clapper and Brennan cases are still being looked at. Take no further questions.

Watch democrat heads explode.

Only if it was a Republican doing it. However, I would like to see immunity given to rat on Hillary. Catch the big fish and gut them.

“Could not believe none of the republicans didn’t light him up.”

Republicans never fail to disappoint. They have no conception of how to go on offense. Theirs is a perpetual defensive game.

Backtrack and look at the release of the Pat Kennedy handwritten notes.

I think Comey was still director at that time but not sure.

There were also notes released last year.

Have any charges been brought on those notes?

I am pretty sure FBI director can release notes..but I will admit I am not an expert on that issue

“I sent POTUS an email this morning encouraging him to fire Mueller”

Best to let Mueller perform in his new job so Trump can learn more about how he performs and who he salutes.

CNN was on all tv screens at my gym yesterday— and every day. I polled nearby exercisers and we all preferred the golf channel. Comments included, “damn Communist News Network.”

Before the YMCA took over my gym, we had Fox News. A bunch of us gathered to watch debates and everything else election related while riding stationary bikes. We keep asking to have FOX reinstated and they keep saying OK and doing nothing.

What is it with the Y?

You would think the Director of the FBI signed a confidentially agreement that would be valid even if he was fired.
