Operation Food Search is launching an expanded summer program this week, providing free meals to children under the age of 18 who would normally eat breakfast and lunch at school.
Some of the meals will come from food truck-like vans.
Starting Monday and continuing through Aug. 11, program leaders plan to distribute more than 100,000 meals to hungry children in St. Louis and St. Louis County, exceeding last years record. The summer program, now in its sixth year, has grown from providing 5,000 meals in 2012, Executive Director Sunny Schaefer said....

Outsource it to real food trucks- cubans, gyros, and burritos for the urchins!
I hate this as well, for the same reason.
Do the "moms" drive their kids to the food van?
Do they walk to them?
If the food van didn't come, would these folks be starving?
What did they do before the food van existed?
I thought schools already provided "free" meals throughout the summer, no questions asked.
Don't the "moms" already have SNAP?
TANF?
Why don't they use that to feed their kids?
Or, *gasp*, get a job?
I'm tired of being called "cruel" or "wanting to starve kids" when I ask these simple questions.
It's the PARENT'S job to take care of their kids.
I think you are on to something.
As I was reading the headline to this post, I immediately thought of the
"Famous Wild and Free Pigs of the Okefenokee Swamp"
Now why was I thinking about that?
When will the government shut it down?
It would cut into their non-food expenses.
Cincinnati Public Schools is doing it too! Three square a day, weekdays, all summer long.
Just show up for free food, ready made.
Yea, so who is paying for the food vans?
An 8 year old girl is standing there, by herself, waiting for her meal.
Her mommy couldn't be bothered to go with her.
Next they are going to start holding the spoons for the helpless little waifs.
Here’s an idea. Meals are free with a double cost debit to the mother’s welfare payments. A $5.00 meal debits $10 that month.
Perhaps the mothers could get off their sorry butts and make a sandwich for their kids.
Hey, parents....Feed your damn kids!
“All this feed hungry kids crap does is free up money for drugs.”
WINNER WINNER WINNER
But the parents are trying to better the lives of their families - they buy lotto tickets...which, is actually ANOTHER tax on taxpayers!
I’ve been hearing commercials about kids going “hungry” at school. Finally saw a photo of one of these students in a print ad...I swear, the kid coulda stood to lose a few pounds.
And their parents cannot feed their own kids breakfast and lunch....
Why feed your own kids when others will do it for you? Those people even run commercials guilt shaming other people to feed kids tat are not their own.
Too damn lazy to peel open a lunchables container.
Drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, lottery tickets and scratch off tickets.
Thats what i see these people buying with others money. Then others pay to feed their damn kids they aren’t feeding or parenting.
No they are not. Just go to Walmart. The parents of these allegedly starved kids are fat. Their kids are too. The parents are fatter than the kids. And we are making them fatter.
The USDA, meaning you.
Are you sure it was “hungry” and not food insecurity? That’s the new measure of who gets free food. If they go to bed feeling insecure about their next meal they qualify.
For 13 years my mom sent me off to school with Velveeta sandwiches, baloney sandwiches, and peanut butter sandwiches. We were a blue-collar, one-income family. I had a bowl of cereal or a Pop-Tart for breakfast. What’s so GD hard about it. No one should be going to school without a parent-provided breakfast and lunch. If you’re not providing your child with a self-financed breakfast and lunch, you’re an abject failure.
