I am certain that we used steam shovels as well.
And dynamite.

Path Between the Seas. Great book. Many photos. The PCC has some 10,000 glass plate photo negatives and one can order prints. All the restaurants and places in Panama have them on large posters. Fantastic.

The French just did some dredging on the Atlantic side. Pathetic. The “French Effort” was about selling shares, not digging a canal.

Isn’t it great that we just allowed our politicians to just give this impressive feat away?
To: Lorianne
are they the French or the Americans ???
there is a “French ditch” still visible...
To: Dr. Bogus Pachysandra
That was by National Geographic...a one hour show...
they showed it over and over on board when I took a cruise through there...
Teddy Roosevelt went down there during the digging and was the 1st US president to leave the country...
To: Tennessee Nana
Carter did the right thing. 22,000 lost their lives building it.

I don’t follow the logic.
How many died building the Empire State building or the trans-continental railroads? Does death create a claim on ownership?

And they say we can’t build a wall.
One hundred years ago they would have had it up in a year.
