As a young man, I was with a group that met Tommy Lasagna over the Dugout in Dodgers Stadium. He saw that some of us were rooting for the other team. He pointed a ‘shame on you’ finger at us and told us if we weren’t Dodger’s fans, we might not get into Heaven.

What a great guy he is. Prayers for his health!

A friend of mine was a bat bot for the AAA Phoenix Giants and various MLB spring training teams in the mid, late 1960s.

He tells the story of being batboy for the visiting Dodgers one game. It was in the last inning with the Dodgers way ahead and he started putting away the gear to get a jump on it and get it done. Lasorda saw him and started cursing and sputtering at him that he was gonna jinx them. Startled him good. A little while later he said Lasorda came back up to him and kind of laughed and patted him on the shoulder saying: “Kid, we’re pretty superstitious in this game.”

I’m anything but a Dodger fan, but everyone likes Tommy Lasorda. All the best to Tommy and his family.

One tough Italian. Him and Billy Martin. Anybody that followed MLB in the 1950’s knows exactly what event between them I’m referring to. Later, best pals and faced off in the ‘77 World series. Reggie, with 3 bombs in game six, damn near sent Tommy over the edge. Then in ‘78, Tommy had to eat the Bomber’s win again over his Dodgers again!!! Revenge was sweet tho for the Dodgers and Tommy in the strike shortened ‘81 season!!! Bombers beat in six!

Back in the 80’s, I went to a Spring Trng day game at Vero Beach. LaSorda was managing, the Ultra Slim Fast man. I saw him on the field and said to myself -
damn, that stuff must work.

Then I got back in my car and was hauling butt for West Florida when I passed by Haines City and they were advertising a night game btwn the Royals and the Dodgers.

What the hell, I stopped figuring I would watch a couple innings. One of the first things I noticed was a “before” Tommy LaSorda. He had been wearing a girdle at Vero!

Sad. Prayers for Mr. Lasorda. He was sorely missed on 9/23/16 when Kevin Costner gave the best speech ever at Dodger Stadium. Losorda should have sat with Vin Scully that day. Sadly, he was in the stands, unable to follow the program.
