Youve seen the story multiple times already: a Christian baker declines to cater a gay wedding, and gets sued in the process. The most publicized came out of Oregon, where the bakery Sweet Cakes by Melissa chose not to bake a wedding for a same-sex wedding.
Rachel Bowman-Cryer and her mother visited Sweet Cakes planning to order a wedding cake. Bowman-Cryer had purchased a cake previously from the Kleins for her mothers sixth wedding. Bowman-Cryer wanted to have the same cake she had purchased for her mother. Thats when Aaron Klein asked what the name of the bride and groom were.
Its two brides, Bowman-Cryer said.
I think we may have wasted your time, Aaron Klein told Bowman-Cryer. We dont do same-sex weddings.
That answer led to a complaint with the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries, and what happened as a result? As the Conservative Tribune reported, In 2013, Oregon Democrat Brad Avakian, as commissioner of the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries, put a Christian bakery out of business because its owners stood up for their religious convictions.
Sweetcakes by Melissa, owned by Melissa and Aaron Klein, was forced out of business by Avakian and the BOLI in 2013. Klein told Independent Journal Review that they were fined $135,000 and the state garnished their bank accounts to cover it. When all was said and done, Klein said that the state took $144,000 from them.
In the Red tsunami that swept the nation last Tuesday, however, justice was served to the politician behind putting the bakery out of business.
Fast forward to 2016 and Avakian, not unlike many of his fellow Democrats, got served a big slice of sweet justice. The people of Oregon ended his run for Oregon secretary of state in favor of Republican Dennis Richardson the first time in 14 years the solidly blue state elected a Republican for state office.
Rob Kremer, an Oregon political analyst, told the Review: I think people in Oregon were uncomfortable with Avakians stated objective of expanding the scope of the secretary of states office to broaden a progressive agenda. While I dont think the Sweetcakes by Melissa case was the only thing that turned off voters, it was certainly an example people could point to to show that he was abusing his authority.
In addition to the voters, of all the major newspapers in the very blue state, not a single one offered Avakian its endorsement.
Aaron Klein told the Review: His losing was a good sign that people dont agree with somebody who is anti-constitutional to the nth degree. He never recognized our religious constitutional rights in his office. He just ignored them. And then he went off-kilter with ideas about what he wanted to do in his new office.
Good riddance! And Sweet Cakes is still appealing their lawsuit to the Oregon Supreme Court, so they may rise again as Avakian falls out of employment.

I’ve asked this question many times: who wants to eat a cake made by a baker who doesn’t respect or like you? As my culinary professor says every day: Don’t anger the cook.
But make no mistake, he will eventually see justice, in this life or the next.

No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States [emphasis added]; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
Citizens with religious convictions need to get familiar with Section 1. It can save same them a bunch of grieve in pro-LGBT activist states that wrongly use government power to harass citizens with religious convictions.
You know when someone who gets married that often and her child come in for a wedding cake, it must have taken an amazing act of faith to walk away from that much recurring business!
I am of the opinion that true justice would be requiring him to pay the fine that he imposed in clear violation of the 1st Amendment freedom of assembly clause.
Should have made the cake and substituted water with spit.
And compensate them for the time and $$$ necessary to restore their business.

He still has his Oregon Labor Commissioner office for another 2 years. He lost his bid for Oregon SoS, which was probably a big disappointment for George Soros.
Isn’t Oregon one of those states where if you take out Portland you’ve got a state that would never elect a Democrat?
Seriously, folks, I’m in first year culinary school and my professor constantly says “Don’t make the cook mad.” He’s not a kid and he knows what he is talking about.
IF, and I mean, if, you go to gay blogs, you will see the occasional gay guy with a brain suggest that forcing people to make cakes is inviting spit/urine and other things into the batter. It can happen. It happens in restaurants every day when the guest is obnoxious.
I’m more interested in how this Christian couple gets compensated.

That ship sailed, a long time ago. They are having riots in Portland because this is not the United States. Those thugs who were arrested for rioting are already on the street with misdemeanor charges. The Oregon government wants to overthrow Trumpism, and there is f#ckall anyone will do about it..
Dumbass bakers. They should have baked a cake the guests would never forget. Ooops! Sorry.
Anyone who has worked in a restraunt knows this. Be an ass to the waiter or cook and they’ll play catch with your steak before serving you. It’s ok to return a steak if it’s not cooked correctly, but be a jerk about it, well it may end up on the floor 8-9 times.
I do think most people who work in restaurants are ethical. I especially think that Christian bakers put in a horrible position are ethical. But why take the chance? Of course, most of these gay couples have no intention of actually eating or serving the cake - they simply want hated Christians OUT-OF-WORK. As Rush says, don’t doubt me.
