Gwen Ifill, the longtime PBS news anchor who had served as a co-host of PBSs NewsHour and as moderator of Washington Week, has died after a battle with cancer, PBS has confirmed. She was 61.
It is with extremely heavy hearts that we must share that our dear friend and beloved colleague Gwen Ifill passed away this afternoon following several months of cancer treatment, PBS NewsHour said in a statement on Monday. She was surrounded by loving family and many friends whom we ask that you keep in your thoughts and prayers.
"I am very sad to tell you that our dear friend and beloved colleague Gwen Ifill passed away today in hospice care in Washington," WETA president and CEO Sharon Percy Rockefeller wrote in an email to staff at the public TV station Monday. "I spent an hour with her this morning and she was resting comfortably, surrounded by loving family and friends... Earlier today, I conveyed to Gwen the devoted love and affection of all of us at WETA/NewsHour. Let us hold Gwen and her family even closer now in our hearts and prayers."

Prayers for loved ones.
Sad. She was a good journalist.
Cancer is such an evil thing (if things are indeed evil).
I wish this type of death on no one, having lost my first wife due to it.
I was wondering where she was during the debates.
That’s too young. Very sad.
That’s too young. Very sad.
I hope this thread doesn’t get deleted.
Several on this subject already have been.
My condolences to the living she left behind. They are upheld in prayers.
Her?
Not so much.
RIP. Prayers to her family & friends.
Interestingly, I’ve been researching the meaning of the word, “evil” in the bible. It really means “bad”. e.g. when God causes a very bad thing to come upon a people or person, the bible will often say God did “evil”. But it means God killed them all and, for them, it was a bad thing to happen.
I think when people use the word, “evil” regarding a thing or person, what they really mean is, “wicked”. e.g. Hillary is a wicked woman.
This is the 3rd article I’ve read on this and the 1st to mention cancer. I should think that cancer would be in the lede. I can understand a desire for privacy, but stating it right off, when once dies so young, eliminates witless conjecture and gossip. May she RIP.
This is no longer 1955. Cancer is openly discussed nowadays.
agreed
I agree. She may have been a Leftist, but she always behaved as a professional. She was not a showboater, but was intelligent, decent and dignified. RIP Gwen Ifill.
Really? I hope it wasn’t because of unkind comments.
Waiting for liberals to blame Trump in 3,2,1...
Gwen was a good reporter when she covered Bay Area stories for the local station
Prayers for her family
I noticed that, and I don't understand why. It is certainly a newsworthy item.
Aah, a person who did not receive the grace when someone dies memo. Why even post something negative on a death thread? That’s what your basement is for.
Maybe I missed it, but I don’t see any other thread still up on this story. So it is not “alreadyposted.”
