On the hip, in a case, or on the seat next to the driver, where are you packing for easy access? Car jacking happens almost everywhere and one of the question that comes up is where are you packing your firearm for easy access. Heres some noise taking place on 1911 Forum on the subject.
boatdoc: many of my friends are appendix carrying for access while driving seems to me that an extra gun could be placed in an ankle holster( a revolver maybe?) for your protection. A purse or briefcase might give the perps a gun they did not have why isnt the media covering this. I used to live in Chicago and it wa s very safe and the cops were very tough( maybe that is why crimes wa s low back in the 80s?)
lhawkins: +1 for appendix carry for vehicle. Also, I mounted a plastic coated magnet on the side of the console (designed for firearms). Holds the gun nicely. It will even hold a gun through a pocket hoslter.
monadh: When Im in my car, I always have two pistols. I generally carry a Springfield 1911 wherever I go, so that is in the holster on my hip. The second is a CZ 9mm of some sort, usually my CZ 75 PCR with a 16 round magazine, 1 chambered for a total of 17 rounds, in an unzipped pistol blanket right next to me. I am too large to gracefully pull a pistol out of the holster, and I can deploy the other pistol much faster. Read the rest of the conversation here, how about you all, where are you packing your heat, in such crisis?
Close to my right hand.
5.56mm
Where I can reach it immediately. Oh ... and it’s a .357 mag.
Lefty at 9. However, because I am more or less ambi with hand guns I am considering getting a right handed holster also. First thing I do when getting in the car is lock the doors.
As they said when my daughter was in the police academy, you are driving a 3,000 pound weapon. Use it.
A while back in Louisville about 200 of Obie’s sons went on a rampage by the river and trapped a [white] women and her kids in their van. The were hitting the children with rocks etc. When asked, the woman said she was afraid to move the van because she might run over one of them. *While these feral animals were beating on her children* Unbelievable.
Had it been my wife there would have be a trail of crushed bodies left behind. No one screws with her or our kid.
Wedged between the driver seat and the console. I can drop my hand down and have it out and ready to fire in the blink of an eye.
When I have to leave my pistol in the car I have a lockbox under the seat that is cabled to the body of the car.
Sure somebody with a bolt cutter can remove it, but I can live with that risk.
I don’t want them to steal my gun too!
I chose to live in an area where carjacking doesn’t occur.
Good one ...
It’s a 1937 Chev - who is to say it’s not stock?! ;’}
I carry in the crossdraw position. And I only zip my vest and any coat I’m wearing up 8 to 10 inches. That allows immediate access to my Glock 23, no matter what position I’m in, including being seated. This works especially well when in a vehicle and belted in.
The old joke is...
Cop: “Why are you carrying a gun!”
Citizen: “It keeps the elephants away!”
Cop: “There are no elephants around here!”
Citizen: “SEE! It works!”
me too, am thinking of putting a bracket on my console by right knees that i can clip a Bladetech IWB holster to for my GLOCK 42. can lock it in lockbox and will have a 26 IWB with me on right hip. probably illegal in Denver where a carjacking is most likely.
Pretty much like the guy who claimed unemployment insurance as an out of work logger. The state asks him where he worked. Guy says southern Arizona. State responds with there are no trees in southern Arizona. The guy says ... yep.
Yup, I pity the fool that picks Mrs. Mad as a victim when she is armed with a vehicle.

I don't have a gun, however, in my center console I have a railroad spike. If I get car jacked, I may get killed, but the criminal is going to see stars, as I whack him on the head. A baseball bat is too cumbersome.
Car gun? Hell, all my guns are canoe guns (lost) in a horrible incident.
I put a sign on my truck designating it a “Safe Space” and Gun Free Zone. It works really well, as I haven’t been carjacked but it doesn’t stop the rednecks from pointing and laughing.
I had a fairly good sized pocket holster for my Glock 42. The size breaks up the silhouette very nicely. They slide out of my pocket easily and fit right between the seat and console. Easy enough to lock up when I have to do so. Also easy to slide into my pocket when I leave the car.
