Wisconsin Partisan Primary: Voter Incident
Personal | 8-9-2016 | knittnmom

Posted on 08/09/2016 8:50:30 PM PDT by knittnmom

I’m an election inspector in the State of Wisconsin. My daughter said I should write up one of the experiences from today.

Voter # 25 in our district is a person who has served several times as an election inspector with us. Today, he was not working as an inspector, but seemed to have a chip on his shoulder.

When he was asked to say his name, he gave only his last name. Asked for his full name, he said, “Well, you can call me Mike”. Then he was asked to recite his street address. He provided the name of the street, but not the address. When asked again for the full street address, he said “I just told you.” About this time, he yanked his ID from the inspector who was waiting for him to finish providing his address so that the Inspector could read off the expiration date. The inspector asked for it back, as he needed to read that part, and the voter said “you already saw it”, and would not bring it back out.

About this time, he started ranting about being denied his right to vote. He was told he was not being denied his right to vote, but we had to have the requested information from everyone. He yelled at us about “knowing who he was” and how he was an election inspector who’d worked with us, so he shouldn’t have to tell us the information. Then he threatened to call the GAB (Government Accountability Board). Our chief inspector said that would be fine, it was his right.

The voter stepped away from the poll books, and placed a call on his cell phone. He started ranting at the person on the phone about “Republican obstruction” and demanding they send someone there right away, as he wasn’t leaving until he got his ballot. (One of the inspectors said his wife will be amazed at his being called a Republican, as he’d volunteered with the Democratic party for many years.)

While on the phone, he claimed he’d given his full, legal name, and recited it to the person on the phone. He also claimed he’d given his full street address. Again, he recited it to the person on the phone, but had refused to provide it to the election inspectors. Since we heard him provide the needed information on the phone call, we then gave him the number. (In Wisconsin, the voter is given a number to take to the ballot table.) He refused to touch the number. Instead, he walked to the ballot table and yanked a ballot out of that inspector’s hand.

While still ranting on the phone about obstruction and someone needing to get here right away, he voted, and left the building.

Later, a police officer came to take statements from those who’d directly interacted with him.

The other inspectors and I tried to determine a motive for his behavior. Some speculated that he was annoyed he was not asked to work at this election. Another thought maybe he wanted something to bring more “hits” to his blog.

It wasn’t until after I was home that I realized he was trying to make a case for Republican voter obstruction. Unknown to him, however, there was a poll watcher there, and she took it all in. I think she may even have recorded the incident on her phone.

Hope I put this in the right forum. My deepest apologies if I've offended any FReepers by using inappropriate key words.

Her in TN we hand over our PHOTO ...usually a current DR and its not where we can “snatch it back”

our info is checked in the computer...

sometimes I’m asked if my info has changed since the last time I voted...

Then I’m handed a ballot...

this guy was attempting to start something

The law requires inspectors to have the voter recite name and full address out loud. I had my husband and daughter do so, and every inspector who came in to vote was also required to follow the same rules as any voter, regardless of how well they are known by the inspectors behind the table. We asked no more - or less - of him than we ask of anyone else.

I worked the polls here during our primary. I didn’t know other poll worker names when I left. The poll worker is suppose to ask the name and address and ask for the ID. The worker may not have known the person’s name even if they knew the face. The voter was just trying to cause an incident. Our voter ID law which we followed in the primary was declared illegal by a judge.

Some speculated that he was annoyed he was not asked to work at this election.

Sounds like it was long overdue. With blatant maturity and anger control issues?

Hope they nail his ass for conduct unbecoming an adult.

There are people who have the same exact name, however, their addresses are different. That is why it is required that they give this information. To ensure the person getting the ballot is the correct person on the voter list.

Former poll worker here.
The guy was way out of line. Glad there were witnesses.

Sounds like he was putting on an act. Dems are probably testing different cheating methods for November.

I take the ID from individual. Have them check the boxes next to name and sign in. It is when their ID is returned that I hand them either a ballot or chit to take to electronic machine
Yes we have had one of the election board members ready with phone to take pictures if needed.

Your experience emphasizes how important it is to have the poll location fully staffed

Thank you for telling us about this incident. Very shady.
Don’t worry about any ‘blue’ language. This is an election year. People tend to get extra riled up then, on both sides.
Somebody should post that event, if a camera phone was running. You could even pixelate his face if someone knows how to do that. Even with identity obscured, this would send a chill up his Progressively bigoted spine.

I don't see that.
I clearly see only one dick. The only way to avoid controversy and drama is to go by the book without exception.

Honestly it exactly does not, and was clearly one sided against the single disrupter who came with an agenda.

Like you, shill.
