(Vanity) Prayers requested from animal lovers

Posted on 07/16/2016 6:32:26 PM PDT by LostInBayport

This is my very first vanity after nearly twelve years on FR. I just want to ask other animal lovers to say a prayer for my cat. I am not normally one to ask for help, but I am stressed out.

She is sixteen and over the past week has been going through some bad stuff that came on rather suddenly. I won't go into the details but you might consider buying stock in paper towels and cleaning supplies. The doctors have eliminated everything and seem to think it is a bleeding stomach ulcer. She came home today but I can't get her to eat and she is obviously uncomfortable. There are medications I have to give her that I have researched and may help but haven't yet.

Thank God I have a family member helping me out; I am very blessed to have that. I am under deadline for work and low on sleep and hope. This cat found me and has insinuated herself into my very heart and is more faithful of a companion than some dogs. I couldn't believe how lost I was when she was in the hospital, and now I fear I'm facing that on a permanent basis. She's had a hard life medically and I have done everything for her that I possibly could. I want to chuck my work out the window and just lay on the floor with her.

I will try to check into the thread as often as I can but I have to keep checking in on her and try to get work done while watching her suffer. I just want to access the power of FR prayer.

I hope that the vets can find the cause of your kitty’s problem and effect a rapid cure for it. I hope your kitty will be relieved of any pain she is in soon.

I totally feel your pain, but hang in there. All of our animals are rescues. Last Sunday we had to put our beloved 16 year old dog to sleep. In May we lost our 1 1/2 year old puppy to a freak accident.....it has been a summer.

One thing: there is a thing called nutritional yeast. You can buy it at health food stores, whole foods, etc. It is a powder loaded w/ nutrients & calories & animals love it. Mix into her food to get extra nutrients into her. There is also a high caloric tube of gel that is for animals that are sick or convalescing. You get it at a vet. And yes, get a second opinion.

Sending love rays to you both.

I’m sitting here, as I am most evenings, with a book, a cup of coffee, and my little dog curled up and asleep on my lap. Prayers up for you and your pet.

When in was a kid I always had a cat. My mom didn’t hate cats, she just tolerated them. This one cat I loved became very ill with a cat cold, and we were too poor to take him to the vet, so my mom made him a bed in the bathroom (she never let him in the house) and made him chicken soup and he got well!

"Syringe feeding is going to happen later tonight...not looking forward to it, but it must be done. Even the baby food didn’t work"

A cat will not eat if they cannot smell the food. A syringe smells like plastic!!

What I did when my cat was at that stage, was to open a can of tuna fish, put a little bit of it into a pan of water, and simmer it so that the house smelled of it. It would also stimulate their gastric juices. I'd also steam a drumstick, or any meat just for the aroma. It kinda fools the cat into thinking that's what their dinner is.

Be patient when feeding, it's a new method for your cat....and you.

Another thing, play some soothing background music.

We’ve lost two kitties to old age, and another 14-year-old is concerning us. I will pray for your kitty. (Please don’t let her suffer.)

We put our 16 year old dog to sleep Sunday morning. We did it in our yard on our bed quilt. A friend who is a vet tech & knew her when she was a puppy came & did it. It was as peaceful as could be. Your post is beautiful & has me crying like a baby.

I have used a traveling vet too. I’ve had him come here before for another cat. I will do that this time if it comes to it. It really is merciful for both pet and owner.

I will keep you and your kitteh in my prayers. As a mother to 2 cats and 5 dogs I feel your pain. I’ve lost several cats and dogs. See my tagline. That was my dog and my life. I will pray for your strength to know when to do the right thing.

She got a fluid injection (subcutaneous I think it is called) so she is hydrated. I’m sorry about Callie. I have been faced with the itemized list from the emergency clinic too in times past. It is shocking.

Heartfelt best wishes from myself and our four cats. We had five at the beginning of the year, hence, we totally understand. Cats know who their friends are.

You have my prayers.

The vets couldn’t tell me what was wrong with my kitty either. So I did as someone suggested and fed her with a syringe, had her wrapped in a towel with her head exposed and held her close. You can find youtube videos on how to do this. I actually got a supply of the large syringes from the drugstore, filled them and stacked them in the fridge, then heated in a cup of warm water at feeding times.

I boiled chicken for the broth, then mixed with mashed up rice. This was basically what she ate for several days, and several large syringes per feeding. At some point, I added tuna juice and it perked her appetite up, making the syringe feeding easier.

I am sorry for your suffering, and for your cat.

I went through something similar with my aged dog, but she has recovered. I will pray the same for you.
