Great old song!
A better song, IMHO.
Sadly, the lashes and the bubble doo was the thing, back then.
When I was about 5, my mom poofed up my hair and added a black hair band to my pageboy hair cut.
There’s a photo, somewhere.
I try to mentally block that era, as much as possible.
Arrrrgh.
Now that is stuck in my head.
Not sure if better....
;D
Sorry 'bout that, but I luv me sum dem ol' trucks!
...and I like CB radios better than cell phones, not even close...
I remember that and Greatly appreciate your post about Tianammen square, where the Chinese communist gov’t-army murdered 3000 citizens.
Unsurprisingly, their government has erased All mention of it from any mention.
I’ve encountered Chinese nationals who seemed to honestly never having heard of the slaughter.
Nor did they know of the Mao’s murder of 50 Million Chinese during the Cultural Revolution.

Cell phones were the worst inventions, ever.
Now I not only have to worry about drunk, drugged and stupid drivers, I have to worry about “distracted” ones.
All of us bikers are always just one left turn away from meeting God.

I almost got fired for playing that one Sunday morning in our Calais, Maine radio station. Too racy. 1968. Got an unpleasant phone call from the general manager, who later bought the station from the owner, Buffalo Bob Smith.
I won’t forget that......just horrible
I loved “Convoy” because I saw it as a protest song against the 55 mph speed limit imposed by “conservative” president Richard Nixon, which not even Ronald Reagan could get rid of. Bill Clinton was finally able to do it.
Too racy?
I hated and despised 55. I was in the service in the 80’s and it is no fun going across country, vast areas of nothing, doing 55-64. The cops loved it. Nothing like giving an out of stater a ticket for going 75 through their boring flat straight state.
..a great song that has aged well.
..there’s girls and there’s girls... Hillary likes them....

I think I was 13 or 14 when that song came out; listened to it over and over. Very talented lady, who was smart enough to GET OUT, while the getting was good.
I hope - and suspect - that she’s had a good, normal, life.

I was *6* when it hit the AM airwaves.
It played constantly.
My dad bought the album and I listened to it, often, then and years later.
A classic.
And this is where she is now

Also:
It was the third of June,
On that summer’s day,
When I became a man,
At the hands of a girl
Almost twice my age.....
OMG! She’s a hundred and two????????

The song was an amazing bit of story-telling/poetry, with so many thoughtful, glancing references to Southern American Life.
