Next year we might even get our own locker kids!
Every year for 13 years now Vanessa the duck flies into a courtyard surrounded by walls and windows at an elementary school in Hartland Michigan to lay her eggs. Unfortunately when her ducklings hatch - since they cant fly yet - theres no way out. So Vanessa walks to the school door, quacks loudly till somebody opens it and then leads her brood on a march through the school halls and out another door that leads to a pond - and the good life that all ducks have a right to.
Such a trusting soul; Vanessa must be a democrat. Who else would make the same bad life decision for the past 13 years in a row and still expect that somebody will step up to make sure everything works out all right? On the other hand, once youve come to rely on the kindness of strangers to compensate for all your bad decisions, why change?
Lord Love a Duck! Maybe the educators could turn this annual display of lack of common sense into a common core lesson.
Probably not though. Im guessing Vanessas inability to select a more appropriate nesting habitat is not her fault butt rather due to gender confusion or global warming. Either way, try to remember that Duck Lives Matter.

Maybe “Vanessa” is a Dem, or maybe “Vanessa” is a duck and therefore not expected to be particularly intelligent.
Other than the lack of water, though, that courtyard is a pretty good choice for a nest: No predators and relatively sheltered, and “Vanessa” seems to have solved the water access issue, so she can’t be that dumb. My guess is that if no one had ever helped her get to water, she’d have found a different nesting location next year.
Maybe it was a field or pond when she or her mother were hatched. Aren’t ducks, geese creatures of habit? — they will return to nest where they were hatched. Likewise for geese. And this may continue to happen over many generations.
In my yard, the duck gets introduced to my dog as soon as she lands in the pool.
Still, it is a good story. Thanks for sharing.
Maybe "educators" should stop being paid for using youtube type videos to collect a paycheck.
(the same applies for "news reporters" who now appear with tablets to "report" what is "trending")
