Maybe “Vanessa” is a Dem, or maybe “Vanessa” is a duck and therefore not expected to be particularly intelligent.
Other than the lack of water, though, that courtyard is a pretty good choice for a nest: No predators and relatively sheltered, and “Vanessa” seems to have solved the water access issue, so she can’t be that dumb. My guess is that if no one had ever helped her get to water, she’d have found a different nesting location next year.

Vanessa is a single Mom. She will now assume the iconic roll of long suffering exploited female sacrificing herself, her career, her youth, for the betterment of her innocent disadvantaged children. Vanessa had no way of knowing that the evil irresponsible mallard who she trusted, would abandon her in the wilderness. It is now the responsibility of the school to make sure she is housed and fed and her little ducklings are educated. The fact that she keeps making the same mistake over and over is irrelevant. What are you?! A “fowlist?!”

In my yard, the duck gets introduced to my dog as soon as she lands in the pool.

Lord Love a Duck! Maybe the educators could turn this annual display of lack of common sense into a common core lesson Maybe "educators" should stop being paid for using youtube type videos to collect a paycheck.
(the same applies for "news reporters" who now appear with tablets to "report" what is "trending")
