With all of the furor surround the rise of Donald Trump, Republicans have missed a chance for a little drama concerning an upcoming rift in the (normally monolithic) Democrat party. For out of nowhere, Senator Bernie Sanders has been making an actual attempt at running for the Democrat nomination.
Some may say this is a fool's errand, for the following reasons.
1) Name recognition. Despite its placement in the liberal northeast, Vermont, where Sanders hails from, is known for little more than Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream to the rest of the country. It is not an oil state like Texas or the Dakotas; it is not a home to the movers and shakers like New York; it is not the home of Hollywood and Silicon Valley like California. Sanders is much the same. Can anyone, even the hardiest political junky, name any of Sanders' initiatives prior to the campaign, without Google?
2) Age. People have complained variously about Hillary, or Trump, being close to 70. Sanders is even older. He's 74.
3) You can't out-left Hillary. This is not to say that Sanders isn't trying. One of the things which is motivating his crowd of slackers "Feel the Bern" youth, is the prospect of the Federal Government canceling their student loans. Who knows, they might even be able to move out of their mothers' basements...if there were any jobs. "If we had some bacon, then we could have bacon and eggs...if we had any eggs."
4) Vote rigging. People love to complain about the games Ted Cruz is playing by trying to poach delegates from Donald Trump, even in states Trump has already won. Trump has responded by hiring veteran operative Manafort; Cruz has seemingly got egg on his face (look, now we can have bacon and eggs after all !) following the infamous #NeverTrump tweet from the GOPe official following the Colorado caucus. But does anyone doubt, that Sanders would love to be in a position like Cruz? The Dem party is determined by "super delegates" : party officials who are not even elected by voters, but appointed by insiders and cronies: and whose sole purpose (aside, I suppose, from attending well-victualed important party functions) is to assure the victory of the insider. Sanders has a true uphill fight should he wish to gain any of their support.
But still, all is not lost. Even aside from the whispered rumors of Hillary's legal trouble over unsecured servers and classified e-mails, this is a truly exciting time for someone with Bernie's unique gifts and outlook.
Does anyone think Venezuela could use a new President?
A scoop worthy of Ben and Jerry *PING*
I thought Fidel was taking over Venezuela as soon as he was dead?
I would love to see Bernie win the nomination. The thought of a President Hillary almost nauseates me as much as finding out what is really in her panty drawer.
Bernie the freeloader.
In the 70s, Bernie was a Pet Rock.
In almost every NE state that voted today Trump came in third in the raw vote. Libs are loved in the NE.
He’s devolved.
I wondered who the pigeons were feeding at the park the other day. Now I know.
Instead of "Democratic Socialism" was can have the "Democrat Socialist Worker's Party."
They can work with Canada and Mexico to create a "Greater North American Co-Prosperity Sphere" : Obama has already given them a good start on that one.
“National Socialist World Workers’ Party For Justice And Ending Racism” might work for them.
Sanders is nothing but a old time communist...what scares me are the fools wanting to vote for him.
Bribery with (in part) my money.
“You can’t out-left Hillary”
She just says it.
He believes it.
The current Department of Education doesn’t even bother to “pay off” the loans — you walk away from obligations after a certain time period.
Thank Clinton for that boondoggle, along with artificially increasing college costs.
Now we’re doing the same thing with healthcare. We’re already in a socialist state.
The Bern needs to attack Hitlery on her e-mail crimes and security breaches.
If he had done that earlier , The Bern would be beating Hitlery like a drum.
But The Bern fell for the old, “lets be civil and not mention the elephant in the room Trick”, widely used now by both of the Climptons , formerly used by BJ Climpton in relation to the Monica Lewinsky Scandal and BJ Climptons various rapes of what he thought were back alley receptacles for his allegedly misshapen appendage, and his wife’s complicit cover up of all BJ’s mistreatment of women, for her own benefit.
The Bern would not go for blood. Big Mistake.
Its a mistake that the Donald will not make.
Unless there is a recommendation for an indictment of Hillary, Bernie’s chances are 0%.
With a recommendation for an indictment of Hillary...everything changes.
