I'm Giving Up; Well Not Quite Yet
Off Grid Blog ^ | April 20, 2016 | Charles S. Meek

A very good friend of mine, who is a die-hard Republican told me today after New York: “Let’s just get this over and nominate Trump, so I can once-for-all give up on the Republican Party.” I responded that we shouldn't give up hope just yet. If we can get through next week, Cruz will have a great May heading into the convention. There is at least an even chance that Trump will be short of 1237 on the first ballot. And watch this really historic and inspiring speech by Ted Cruz:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2BhhhtiA04

This compares to Trump’s speeches, which go something like this:

“I. love New York. New Jersey. My casinos. I did great. Fantastic deal. I am. Super rich. But I HATE those women. Who are. Too ugly. To be President. Those liars too. Hate them. Hate them. I’m Presbyterian. Very very special people. But I will not repent. I love water boarding. Make America. Great again!"

But why doesn't Trump ever talk about the Constitution, or big government, or free markets, or the Tenth Amendment, or the federal debt, or natural marriage?

You obviously haven't been listening.

The Revolution is ON!

Vote Trump

Well, I would say that almost every 'conservative' candidate that has run for office in the last 8 years has said all of those things, yet they have gone to washīngton and betrayed us. Maybe its time we vote for a man that has had great success in life who is not a lawyer.

Sorry, but he is not going to roll over like Bush did.

That is the problem he says to much. I didnt ask him to roll over just tell the truth. Colorado did not cheat but the way he talks they did. The rules were there for him to take advantage off just like everyone else.

So how can I believe that he has actually change from his liberal positions when he is lying about this?

My point is he is pushing me away with his attacks on others. He did not have to say Carlie was ugly or Megan was bleeding from where ever. He could have used substance to go after them. Then he would not have looked like a bully. He would have looked like a tough no nonsense candidate.

But his attacks on everyone else turn me off and make me think he is a bully. And that is just him. His supporters can be even worse. I have been attacked over and over for voicing my opinion and concerns. Not attacking anyone but being attacked personally.

“There are some things to like about Trump. Well, at least one—many Democrats hate him. But why doesn’t Trump ever talk about the Constitution, or big government, or free markets, or the Tenth Amendment, or the federal debt, or natural marriage? Why doesn’t he repudiate his liberal positions from the past? Why doesn’t he release his financial statements? Why? Why? “

I will try to answer your objections one at a time but please realize your objections are really frustrating because they have been answered so many times, OVER and OVER again. I am trying to not be snarky or mean but this just frustrating. You need to quit drinking the Cruz Kool-aide

“Why doesn’t Trump talk about the Constitution?”
Trump talks about the Constitution all the time!!!!!!!!
1. Trumps line when he entered the race was: “A nation without laws is not a nation and a nation without borders is not a nation” The Constitution is the foundation of US law. He is advocating upholding the Constitution when he talks about upholding the law.
2. National Concealed carry is a Constitutional Issue
3. Repealing not just Obamacare but the unconstitutional Presidential orders is a Constitutional issue

“Big government”
1. Cutting taxes and reducing the reach of the IRS is cutting big government.
2. Cutting the waste and fraud in spending programs is reducing the size of government
3. Abolishing Common Core is code words for if not abolishing then at least severely limiting the DoE.
4. He has talked about reducing the EPA.

Reducing the IRS, Department of Education and the EPA may not be as much as you want see done but it is more than anyone else has done

“Free Markets”
You have to be joking or do you support the Cruz position on the TPP? To even ask this shows you have not paid attention to what Trump says on trade and tariffs. I am sorry but your objection here is really frustrating and borders on the asinine

“10th Amendment”
Reducing the reach of various Federal agencies IRS, DOE, EPA and eliminating governmental waste will go a fair bit to redressing the problem with the 10th amendment. Look at the effect of Trump’s positions not empty rhetoric.

“The Federal Debt”
Trump has said he wants to pay off the Federal Debt in 8 years. I don’t think that is possible but I’d like to see him try. You’ve not been paying attention

“Natural Marriage”
He fudges on this I agree but compare his vagueness with Clinton’s Clarity on this issue.

“Why doesn’t he repudiate his past liberal positions?”
He has - many times. NOT TO MENTION MANY OF THE CLAIMS ABOUT PREVIOUS POSITIONS ARE MISREPRESENTATIONS OF HIS PREVIOUS POSITION. This is another really frustrating objection to Trump.

“Why does he spend more time making personal attacks than explaining policy details?”
I am at this point pulling out what is left of my hair!

Trump has more information on his programs and policies listed on his website than any candidate I’ve ever seen. He literally has pages of fairly specific of proposals on:
1. An immigration reform plan,
2. A tax plan,
3. National concealed carry
4. Health care

You can disagree with these but you can’t say he has not presented details of what he wants to do.

His rallies are to build enthusiasm and generate and a get out the vote device. His supporters I guess know how to go to website and read.

I hope this helps.

Just cant stomach him attacking everyone out there.

Yup. If I end up not voting for him, that'll be why. He's basicly attacked everyone that isn't either him, or a syncophant.

Hopefully he can fix that somehow between now and November, but I have my doubts

Thank you, it’s exactly what we thought was well. Trump has been Cruz flak shield all this time, right up until Cruz attacked Trump and like everyone else before him, it blew up in his face.

And Trump saved us from a jeb disaster. Cruz would have been the sole focus of the media onslaught for being the prominent conservative.

If he had just stayed united with Trump it could have been very different. Not now...

Wow man you’ve reiterated every talking point the left has about Trump. Good job. Guess no one in this primary race ever attacked another candidate. When they did, did you run away from them too? Or did you hold fast and agree with them?

The answer to all your “why”s is the same: he’s not a conservative.

I’ve yet to see JR or his mods zot someone for simply not being pro-Trump, or pointing out that Trump really doesn’t fit the bill of a “movement conservative”.

But, who knows, maybe tonight’s the night.

We fought back with the Contract for America and slowed the descent into the mess we are in now. Been a steady dose of rhetoric with little to show for it since 96 the way I see it. We are out of time. No more Harvard lawyers. Trump or bust.

For the first time since I’ve been voting, Pennsylvania is going to have a say in the primary. I’m really not sure who to vote for. Trump pisses off all the right people and put his fortune on the line, but could do a 180 if elected and become the liberal he was before. Cruz has a great track record for our cause but recent missteps and cozying to the elite is dis-heartening.

Well, that’s a troubling development.

If people are getting banned on this site for refusing to blindly support someone simply because they’re the (presumptive!) Republican nominee, then this is no longer a conservative website, but a Republican website.

If I get a zot for pointing that out, then so be it.

You have to infiltrate them to change them.
Ted is our guy inside and there is a reason the inside hates him.
He could clear the rats nest overnight if elected to the presidency.

As others have already pointed out, he has. But all these issues come in second to the most important issue of all -- and the one that propelled Trump to the top -- immigration.

Unless the immigration mess is fixed -- and fixed now! -- none of those other issues matters at all. It will be game over for the Republic....

Last election, Obama won by what, 5 million votes? Imagine after 30 million illegals get amnesty and the right to vote. No matter what your pet issue is, too effin bad. It's all over. Forever.
