I just realized this week that my dog has trouble with daylight savings time. He gets so many clues from when things happen.

Here in Arizony, we don’t hold with no ideas of that crazy Ben Franklin. (Except for the post office, electricity, bifocals and stuff like that. And America. We like that.)

Exactly who wants Daylight Savings Time to continue? Over the last decade, just about everyone I know....wants it terminated.

There is no reason for it. Not one little bit. Change the school hours...or the factory hours. To change the clock is stupid.

If Trump would promise to abolish DST, he will win in a landslide.

What we need is Local Noon Based Time(LNBT) this time would be locally computer generated based on when high noon is at your physical local location. Your day would be exactly the hours between sunrise and sunset. Just like it used to be for centuries. Anything requiring a schedule or coordination, class times, work meetings, conferences would all use GMT. No confusing time zones to worry about. We might need some new nomenclature for global coordintion but the old standards : morning, afternoon, evening and night should still suffice.

Does anybody really KNOW what time it is?

I don’t care, DST or non-DST. Pick a damn time, and stick with it. This changing forward and back is absolutely nuts. Back when our country was larely agricultural based, and our farm machinery didn’t have built-in headlights, this made sense.

But, as most harvesting machinery has more than adequate power to run multiple floodlights, and the number of people who perform this labor is now a microscopic minority - let’s either stay on DST year around, or abandon it all together.

However, being a States Rights proponent; this should be handled by independant States, not driven down by the Federal Government.

Right now I like it, work 6PM to 4:30AM. Nice to go to sleep when it’s dark.

Heard someone comment that we shouldn’t use DST, because we are dealing with global warming, ‘and that extra hour of sun could make it worse’..

Wouldn't following nature's biological clock be more beneficial to our wellbeing?

Kinda, but then how do you determine whose internal clock every company runs off of? You can't tell all your employees "just get in whenever I do", that won't work, they'll have no idea when to get in. You can't have a business meeting at 'high noon' when the sun doesn't always fly straight above at all. There has to be a universal clock that everyone can relate to. And, that was the point of DST. The clocks move forward/backward in order to make the most 'day' out of the sunlight hours. With the sun rising earlier, moving the clock forward an hour means the sun rises at 06 instead of 0500. Likewise, back in fall makes the sun rise at 06 instead of 0700.

That said, I still think it's stupid and should be gotten rid of.

why are we embracing DST?

Because the government says so.

Wouldn't following nature's biological clock be more beneficial to our wellbeing?

Yes, but the government says DST. And they have the guns.

Who decided first that it was a good idea to turn clocks forward one hour in spring and wind them back in the fall?

Who had the idea first is debatable. Who forced in on us? The government.

Did it save significant amounts of energy and thus money?

No but that is not the point. The point is the government yells, "Frog!" and you hop and go "ribbit!" This is not healthy.

If the argument is that kids have to wait on school buses in the dark, wouldn’t it be easier to just have the school change the school hours rather than the whole nation change their clocks?

I do like it when we fall back an hour. I’d support us falling back an hour every Sunday.

A lot of discussion and angst over one hour. It’s not like we switched to Moscow standard time, y’know!

What’s needed is Universal G Time.

Whatever time it is where I’m at, that’s what time it is everywhere else too.

You guys must not work for a living.

I treasure Daylight Savings Time as for at least a few months out of the year, I get to have a couple hours of daylight after I get home from work. I go out to the grill, cook a steak and have a couple of beers. But you seem to want to take that away from me.

Why?

It rained most of the afternoon yesterday, so there was zero advantage of losing an hour of sleep n to go on DST.

However, we are now having a break in the rain, and my wife brought me a glass of wine at 5:30 pm with a lot of daylight left.

Nice.

Also, my Pathfinder Casio watch reset itself this morning. Some times it doesn’t do that.

Being retired, we slept in late this morning.

Basically, both sides of our family likes this after the first couple of days

The downside are the serious auto wrecks that happen the first couple of days. We had one in the county today. A driver may have gone to sleep and crossed over the lanes and hit an oncoming vehicle. One death and a couple of serious injuries from this accident.
