I am a Trump supporter but I would like to know if Cruz's comments about Chicago changed the mind of any of his supporters. Is it A) no difference I still support Cruz B) I am rethinking my support for Cruz C) I am now going to support another candidate or not voting?

Ok. There is some validity to that point. I would submit that some of that destruction is self inflicted. Ted has been real good at that. In addition I posit that Trump has elevated some of our talent too. Sessions comes to mind.
That’s a massive stretch to say the least! In no way, shape or form did Cruz say free speech doesn’t apply if someone’s offended. Trump has been rough with protestors and made comments like back in the day, they would’ve been carried out on a stretcher. Cruz is simply stating the obvious, that that kind of talk might rile up some protestors to try to fight back!
The kind of thing Cruz would say to a protestor is the right way to handle it. That he’s glad we live in a free country where free speech is tolerated. A softer tone helps to not enflame things into a bigger conflict than they need to be and you can get your point across just as well. And you won’t turn off 2/3rds of women voters.

Trump isn’t a player in that “war on women” thing that is used to attack prolifers, but Ted is low hanging fruit and that will be added to the mix
I’m not giving any kind of approval to it. But you have to understand that it’s not necessary for a candidate to say things that enflame the tensions and make it easy for mobs like this to recruit their ground troops. Not to mention say things that will make it hard to get elected. If we have to spend all our time defending our candidate for saying stupid things instead of talking about the actual issues and plans for the country, we will lose.

Paine just seemed to get bitter the longer he went on, and eventually turned on Washington and some of the other founders for perceived slights. He also, if I remember correctly, jumped on the French Revolution populist bandwagon, encouraging the darker sentiments which, by the Grace of God, did not prevail here in America during and after ours.

It is hardly a stretch, and your point about the “softer tone” makes my point.
If one cannot forcefully make their point, because others might overreact and cause violence, then speech isn’t free.
The 78 year old who recently cold cocked a protester being led out of the building is facing charges, and rightly so.
But I think Cruz stepped in it massively with his words- because out of the 10 or 11 ways I can think of to summarize or analogize them, only one finds him on the side of free speech.
Remember, Cruz did NOT say that Trump should stand up and reinforce that nonviolence is a primary need - he said that Trump’s past statements fostered the climate that led to this event. The former is what you are arguing he said, I think. The latter is what he actually said.
Better yet, Cruz could have come out with firm condemnation for the event itself, then segued into a call for all candidates to disavow violence. That may have been useful.
I do not see how Cruz benefits from the impression he gave - that Trump and his campaign is to blame for the events, because Trump uses strong rhetoric.

I didn’t write any deranged or hate-filled comments. I can watch Cruz get insulted and lied about all day, every day, but if I simply point out Trump’s record, the post gets deleted. I had an article about Trump University I posted get deleted and now more comments deleted yesterday.

A woman reporter just walked out of a Trump appearance bruised up and filed a police report. Then there’s his marital history of trading in for younger models. If you think the war on women card won’t be played on Trump, you’re dreaming.
I was very disappointed in Cruz on this. I’m waiting to see if he “revises” his comments, which is what a decent person should do when he is wrong in the heat of a political campaign.

I’m not sure if that is a slogan, an epithet, or some point that is somehow supposed to challenge my position. In any event, I hold no animosity to those backing other candidates; I just have no interest in the foodfights.
I used to say that, although I supported Trump, I would also be happy with Cruz if he won the nomination.

And that would have been a good way for Cruz to frame it: Don’t give the left any excuses to put their hate into action. But keep the focus of blame on the left, not on Trump.
Didn’t change my mind a bit. I don’t like Cruz. I don’t like Trump. I’m in a quandary - but it’s fascinating to watch. I’ve voted in every local, state and national election since (cough-cough) Nixon. Tuesday is coming fast here in Florida. ..still haven’t made a decision.
I really don’t expect perfect candidates, just something this year has seemed. ...off.
I already disagree completely with any protestors causing violence or restricting the free movement of others. I just don’t see it as a coincidence this happened the same week a female reporter got injured and an attendee cold-cocked a protestor at Trump appearances. I know conservatives get protested a lot but Trump is simply lowering the bar for political discourse and tone and the other side is going to lower theirs even further to match.
