I completely understand why some conservatives are horrified at the prospect of Donald Trump being the Republican nominee for president. I understand their discomfort with his bluster, with his lack of any history supporting conservative ideas, with his many contributions to Democrat candidates, with some elements of his track record in business. Some of it bothers me too, although I do think a lot of the handwringing is over things that dont really matter that much.
But look, sure, nominating a guy like Donald Trump is in all kinds of ways contrary to what conservative movement types have advocated for decades. I wanted a conservative governor with a really solid record of governing achievements using conservative policy ideas, which is why I was so all over Scott Walker in the early going - and why I think to this day that it was a mistake not to give Rick Perry more serious consideration.
But hey, thats how it went. Right now Trump appears to be the odds-on favorite for the nomination, and a lot of conservatives are beside themselves of it. I get it.
But what I dont get is the currently popular fad of self-styled conservative intellectuals declaring that they will never vote for Trump, even if he is the nominee, and even if it means Hillary Clinton becomes president.
Snip....

Some folks here aren’t going to like that article
A wart on a toad is superior to Hillary.
“But what I dont get is the currently popular fad of self-styled conservative intellectuals declaring that they will never vote for Trump, even if he is the nominee, and even if it means Hillary Clinton becomes president.”
I, as a conservative, have many times held my nose while voting for the lesser of 2 evils. Yes, “lesser evil” is still evil, but it means less of a mess for someone decent to clean up later.
In the present case, Hillary as POTUS leaves me wondering if this country will literally even survive 4 or 8 years more. The Norks and Iranians regularly practice launching EMP attacks (no, Virginia, neither of them is so stupid or so incompetent at building rockets that all fail between 50 and 100 miles of altitude. They are rehearsing an EMP attack), and one of those will destroy this country in a matter of a few seconds...although the carnage, starvation and disease will take a few months to finish the job. I have no such worries with Trump - and while his policies aren’t all mine, he’ll actually surprise most people and do a pretty good job.
Yes, vote Trump (or whomever the nominee is for the Pubbies). But voting Trump NOW means a stake in the heart of the GOPe.
A randomly selected name from the West Podunk phone book would be superior to Hildebeeste.
“Except if you go by the poll data in every state, Hillary beats Donald 419 to 119.”
Plus, Trump hasn’t even started going after Hillary, and you KNOW that he won’t hold back at all.
Put those factors into a poll, and you’ll find it much closer to the diametric opposite of your claim.
This is from the Daily Beast, a democrat site, which surprised me.
Exactly -that she threw that out there in that court room !!
And this filthy slug claims she fights for the children!! Lying damn slug of a woman!
I'm saying -that Mr Trump needs to bring up this case from 1975 in some of the rallies!! It's time to start slamming this Hillary bag of **** down as she very has earned it!!
Let me see...Benito Mussolini or Adolf Hitler? Obama or Clinton? Lesser of two evils. Thats what it always comes down to. Not this time for me. Ted Cruz and No second choice. If he is not nominated I will just write him in. There is no lesser of two evils when it comes to “New York Progressive liberals” with big egos and wanting bigger piles of cash. Save it on me people.
I’m all in for Cruz. Have been since day 1.
But, if it comes down to Trump v. Hildebeast, no sane American can deny The Donald is the only choice.
I do agree with you, but I think Trump is inevitable. He will run better against Hillary than many of us think. It’s my contention that the natural default setting of most nations is monarchy, and that the US electorate now think they’re voting in an emperor, not a president. They’ll prefer the candidate who most looks the part. That will be Trump.
In November, every craven, hormone-fluctuated brain-dead lawless American pro-abortion female is going to do exactly what she did in 2008 and 2012, and elect the first “female” President in American history. After she was responsible to have elected the “first” black president in American history—TWICE. She just loves stickin’ it to the MEN. We have the idiotic social engineering of the Nineteenth Amendment to thank for the dissolution of this country at her hands.
No. He is not better in every way. He is a divider, already has the black vote fired up and is only firing up 30% of the republican vote. Those who look at his record and listen to what he says do not support him.
It’s time to start slamming this Hillary bag of **** down as she has very well earned it!!
And Reagan lost to carter
Get the primaries out of the way would ya?
Also your theory supposed that nothing of your argued circumstances will change between now and November. I personally think the media has been handling trump with soft gloves keeping him ready to year down before November.
If Trump doesn't win because large groups of folks didn't vote.....then, there goes SCOTUS! - - And we all might as well get 'measured' for our boxes!!
A Sessions “Trumps” a Sasse any day of the week
That’s a possibility - but it may be that all what’s out there is about all that there is. Remember, Trump has been a public personality for decades. There are PLENTY of people who WOULD have been contacted by (for example) the sensationalist NY Post to badmouth Trump...were there something besides his womanizing out there to talk about. I just don’t think that there’s much else that isn’t known about him.
“If Trump doesn’t win because large groups of folks didn’t vote.....then, there goes SCOTUS! - - And we all might as well get ‘measured’ for our boxes!!”
Oh, and before anyone jumps in and says, “Oh, but wait, she’ll have to get it through a Republican House and Senate...” - consider that if there are a lot of people who don’t vote for President, many of them simply won’t show up AT ALL in November, and that there are 22 Republican Senate seats up for grabs (and EVERY House seat).
People, like Trump or not (and it isn’t all that difficult to not like him, on several levels), he IS just about infinitely preferable to HRC.
Who do you support - one of the beaners?
