For a nature photographer, capturing a scene of epic predation is akin to winning the lottery. Yes, it isn't pretty. But it depicts the real and very much raw struggle to survive that takes place daily in the animal world.
A professional photographer Christopher Martin was touring Banff National Park, when he happened to come across an elk uneasily moving back and forth across a railway overpass, he knew he was in for a scene that portrays real-world wild life struggle for survival. See the rest of the story here.
Those pics represent a good start. Kudos to the lady with the Model 29.
Chief looks like this, but a little bigger because his old man was a 250 pt St. Bernard.

I respect wolves as dangerous wildlife, but that is it.
You hear people say “Wolves have never attacked people”, but there is a valid reason wolves were hunted to extinction in many places, and it wasn’t because they didn’t attack people.
Anyone who thinks a long line of wolves that are hungry would pass up a human for a meal is crazy.
I knew someone who had one of those big dogs that looked like a cross between a tiger and a mastiff, and I didn’t trust that dog one bit whenever we visited. My wife sat as far away from it as possible.
Seemed like a dangerous animal to me.
Not saying they are bad dogs, but I have always been wary of dogs that are bigger than I am, and don’t act like pets, but just sit there an look at you. I think that is probably a prudent course of action.
Are you the big round juicy-looking type? :-)
Yep, a bolt gun is one handy item. The NY Rangers didn’t have them as standard issue at the time 35 years ago that this happened.
It was a Smith 357 and an Ithaca pump like the Troopers at the time.
I’ll never forget seeing that scene.
I know you do, brother and let me tell you, they are coming our way from northern Michigan too. I mean we are in northern Michigan but they are not here yet that we know of. When they get here, I hope to have plans for them.
In New Mexico one school district has cages for the children to wait in at bus stops to keep them safe from wolves.
Make no mistake, these killing machines are part of the liberal agenda 21 to stop ranching and chase people from rural land.
These wolves have killed people and attacked children.
I happen to love elk. But don’t worry they are in a major decline since these wolves were introduced so you won’t see much elk anymore.
Actually these wolves kill for sport.
I have seen videos posted which follow the dead elk and deer from a wolf pack and none of the dead animals were eaten.
What is more these wolves carry a dangerous disease.
And people are getting it from wolf scat. So are the elk and deer.
Best wolf is a dead wolf.
That’s right.
massive dog, hope you have a big house LOL
I never knew they were in NM
So much for the idiot left who claim wolves only kill the sick and old in a herd.
My Brother had one as a pet that was about the size of those. I got to pet it ONE TIME.
LOL, not as round and juicy as some, but I am sure to every wolf, I might appear to be a tasty treat...especially if they are hungry.
They resemble bears.
