Stunning Images of Wolf Pack taking down an Elk
Cal Sportsman ^ | 2/26/2016 | J Hoffman

For a nature photographer, capturing a scene of epic predation is akin to winning the lottery. Yes, it isn't pretty. But it depicts the real and very much raw struggle to survive that takes place daily in the animal world.

A professional photographer Christopher Martin was touring Banff National Park, when he happened to come across an elk uneasily moving back and forth across a railway overpass, he knew he was in for a scene that portrays real-world wild life struggle for survival. See the rest of the story here.

Horrible. Instead of a camera, he should have been holding a rifle and knocked off the alpha male wolf!

Elk are vermin anyway. ;-)

Yep. we now have a hunting season for wolves in Idaho.

Well past time since the Canadian Wolves were re-introduced here. How do you "re-introduce" something that was never here to begin with?

Anyhow, here are some pics of wolves taken in the Intermountain West more recently:

These are BIG animals. I do not go into the mountains, or even the foothills, without two things.

I’ve got a 220 lb Fila Brasileiro/St. Bernard cross that will beat the hell out of any wolf. Two or three might whip him, but not one. He has cayotes for breakfast.

Rough way to go. I’ve seen this with dogs and whitetails a few times.

I was with a forest ranger from my state one time when we saw a deer getting chewed up by a pack of dogs out on the ice. Deer broke its pelvis and couldn’t get up from a “sitting” position. Ice was too thin to get out there and all he had was a shotgun (out of range).

The amazing thing was the makeup of the pack of dogs. Everything from a giant Shepard to a little lap dog and they all took their turns ripping the deer to shreds.

By the time we got around to the other side of the lake through the woods for perhaps a closer shot, the deer was a pile of fur and the dogs were long gone.

Thanks for the photos and link Jeff. They have to be around 140 pound to 170 right?

Better be concerned for Coyotes too. They get young calves etc.

The Russians use these in their prisons. It states you have to know these types before having one. Ya think!
