"Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is no stranger to controversy, but his comments at his last rally before the Iowa caucuses begin has shocked and offended many combat veterans.
At the event in Cedar Rapids, Trump described for the crowd a conversation he had had with a young man who had served two tours of duty in the Middle East, according to a report from Buzzfeed. This veteran told Trump that the "enemy" had stolen a lot of American military equipment, including armor-plated Humvees.
What Trump said next set Twitter ablaze: Trump claimed that the armor on these vehicles was strong enough that if a bomb went off, the people inside would be "okay" and just "go for a little ride upward and then they come down."
...
A flood of combat veterans began sharing their own experiences about how IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) and other bombs had caused serious injuries to themselves or their fellow service members, or even resulted in deaths."
Trump's comment that troops in armored vehicles simply "go for a little ride" after being hit by an IED shows a complete lack of understanding of the threats faced by American troops. Thousands of troops have been killed in armored vehicles hit by IEDs, and over 1,500 of us have lost at least one limb. Those of us who were lucky took "a little ride" to Walter Reed Army Medical Center or elsewhere for treatment. The unlucky ones took "a little ride" to Arlington cemetery.

— they got tinnitus—
Not to make light of this, but I got tinnitus from sitting in front of the drummer for years. It does suck though.
“that would make me feel a lot better about trump if his supporters admitted he had weaknesses.”
The Perot deja vu is strong with this one. He would say something just this side of the bughouse and everyone excused it until it was finally just too obvious to all...
I was not aware that you had suffered a head injury. Was this from combat if you don’t mind my asking? If it’s too personal, my apologies for asking.
I’m glad you think so.
Amen. It’s getting tiresome reading “what he really meant” over and over.
I have never seen a candidate that has more people eager to change what he actually said. It’s ridiculous.
He is a bombastic personality and while I know he still has widespread support he is beginning to really harm himself with his mouth. He is turning people off and you can’t afford to do that in the general election because the rats start at almost half the votes.
I am still irritated about what he said regarding 9/11 and WMD.
Yeah, all those combat vets a-Tweetin'.
Trump is a fast study ... I have faith in him
that’s not making light at all, man.
i played the drums like a wildman when i was young, but yours is from damaged ear hairs that catch the vibrations, most likely.
mine is deep within the vestibular system and i hear my heartbeat too. it sucks.
i asked if severing the hearing nerve would make a different and they said, nope, you would hear it anyway.
then i’d be deaf AND have tinnitus ll
I’ve got tinnitus also, worse in my right ear. It is from heredity and a bunch of other stuff. I worked in noisy environments for most of my life, drove a loud fire engine for a lot of years, been a pilot and aviation enthusiast, and like to shoot. I also had some pretty severe head injuries from hang gliding and growing up with horses and livestock. I tried to wear hearing protection as much as possible. I even wear ear plugs in church when they turn the sound system up too high.
It is pretty annoying but I have had a full and adventurous life.
It’s not personal at all.
No, i am not in the same league with the men who got the injury from combat. They are heroes.
Boxing for five years in late teens and twenties didn’t help.
But the chronic pain i got made me seek help later on and a doctor gave me two contraindicated meds that caused a thalamic stroke.
i was STILL very functional after about a year but then fell down cement stairs because i didn’t take the dizziness aspect of my problem seriously.
that was the icing on the cake.
pulsatile tinnitus. chronic pain. night terrors, internal tremors, dizzines at times, but all in all, pretty livable.
the night terrors aren’t psychiatric. alot of the soldiers get them.
the theory is yor brain is trying to fix the damage when you sleep and it gets frustrated that it cant hence the night terrors.
i had other issues that went away, and with God, anything is possible.
If you have a son or nephew who was injured this way, you have my prayers.
I’m very sorry to hear that. I hope you continue to get well. As you say, with God’s help all is possible.
The Republican Joe Biden.
So now the FR Trump Patrol is on the Blame Bush bandwagon, completely leaving out 0bama's role in Iraq.
dont be. I can walk and talk and my typing is back up to 100 wpm from 15 as recently as 3 years after the injury.
the body is INCREDIBLE in its ability and desire to heal.
Have a good one :)
This is another great example of how little Trump knows. He doesn’t know the strategic military picture. He doesn’t know the operational picture. And he damn sure doesn’t know the tactical. He does know reality TV, scowling, bullying, and wife-shucking.
Another KKK member?
You could be Trump’s interpreter. He means things he didn’t say, you could explain. Then just explain the “leader principle.” REPEAT IT. “The leader is always right. The leader is always right. The leader is never wrong. The leader is always right.”
Yeah, they’ll fall under Trump’s spell too! They want a dope for Commander in Chief.
Glad to hear it. :)
