Scottish Parliament Forced to Consider Legalizing Incest
MRCTV ^ | 1-26-16 | Dan Joseph

And you thought politics in the United States were crazy! We've got nothing on the Scots.

Due to a "legislative quirk," the Scottish parliament was forced to debate legalizing incestual relationships between consenting adults.

The mandatory debate was held today due to a petition submitted by Australian Richard Morris. The Scottish parliament must consider all petitions which propose a law change.

Mr. Morris' petition was rejected by Parliament (for now, anyway) but I figure it's only a matter of time before it comes up again as the West continues to commit cultural suicide.

No, it is as simple as saying with no shame, “No, I’m not considering it and not voting or bringing it to the floor”; there really are no other choices. “Forced” is a bogus term.

These must be all lowlanders, anyway, as in, swamp inhabitants.

Morris must have a large Muslim constituency in his district.

Now that SCOTUS has forced homosexual marriage" on us, there's no legal reason to stop family members from "marrying" each other. In fact, there's no legitimate reason to stop animal/human "marriage", or foot ware/human "marriage."
After the first ruling, the door has been opened to anything.

We've got nothing on the Scots.

I sure do, in that they would even consider debating such a thing...from an Australian, no less.

Scottish Law, indeed.

For the pro gay marriage types... on what possible grounds can you object to incest????.the biology of reproduction has no bearing on who can get married.. that was your point...At the very minimum you have zero room to object to Gay incest...

the left uses the values of the weak as devices of leadership....

gather all the homo votes, the transgender votes, the black votes, the food stamp votes, etc etc....you've got yourself a voting base!

Can any citizen of any British Commonwealth nation submit such a petition?

Scotland is one of the most left wing countries in the world, and Scottish nationalism has been left wing for eighty or ninety years (longer if you count John Maclean). Yet Scotland serves as some sort of mystical symbol for "palaeocons," from the KKK to Braveheart.

Independence for England!

Anybody can submit such a petition. There's no citizenship requirement at all. It would not surprise me if Mr Morris submitted this petition specifically to point out how absurd that is.

(He also could be quite serious - I've no way of knowing - but it seems the type of issue you might use to raise attention).

So the legislative quirk had nothing to do with the fact that he was Australian (or a resident? of any British Commonwealth nation)?

Not as I understand it. The intent of the Scottish Parliament is to be very open to public petitions, so there are no citizenship or residence requirements - to some extent, that is understandable. As there is no such thing as Scottish citizenship (only British citizenship) it would be very difficult to restrict such a right only to Scots and they also did not want to exclude non-citizens resident in Scotland (and therefore subject to Scottish law) or those who are part of the Scottish diaspora overseas. But it does allow for a degree of foreign interference in Scots issues.

The plus side is that a petition in which a person has no clear standing can be dealt with very quickly - the requirement for it to be considered is not onerous - it can be dismissed quite quickly unless it clearly relates to an important issue in Scots law.

Is there not a minimum number of signatures necessary for a petition to go to Parliament? Otherwise it seems they would be flooded with all sorts of idiotic ones.
