Rollerball (1975)
In a corporate-controlled future, an ultra-violent sport known as Rollerball represents the world, and one of its powerful athletes is out to defy those who want him out of the game.
While rated on IMDB a 6.6 the film deserves more for accurately sensing the dystopian direction of globalization.
Awesome last 8 minutes spoiler
Coincidentally, the final game is New York vs. Houson
Excellent idea. Is that with James Caan?
How about Death Race 2000?
If you haven't seen it, it is mostly a pretty good movie.
Cool for 1975.
Was like the original Hunger Games. Even had a pretty good sound track, as I remember, for its day.
Rollerball is an AWESOME movie. James Caan’s two great roles were Jonathan E. in Rollerball, and Sonny Corleone in Godfather I. Everything else he’s done is at best second rate, IMHO.
There was a remake of Rollerball in the last decade. It is awful. I turned it off after about 15 minutes. No resemblance to the original except that skates were present in both movies.
I would say if you’re a Cruzer, today your movie is “Zulu,” how a handful of British soldiers defeated a vast Zulu army.
If you’re a Trumpster, your movie is “The Patriot,” how a man who wanted to stay out of the fight finally admits he has to join and leads Americans to victory.
If you’re a Rubio-ite, your movie is “Leap of Faith,” how a con-man minister sees a real life miracle.

I’m watching “Plan 10 From Outer Space.” The plot consists of aliens having old, demented fossils run for president for a party of thieves. The two fossils will be a 76 year old, male socialist/communist and a 69 year old female felon. They plan to take over the country and make everybody as crazy as they are.
If you have not seen Misery (directed by Rob Reiner, I know) then you should. A thoroughly good film.
Good list. Would also suggest Terry Gilliam’s movie Brazil. Robert de Niro as a former government worker who got tired of all the bureaucracy and becomes a renegade heating/air conditioning repairman and wanted felon is just part of the fun. Definitely an anti-big government movie.
Caan was also great in “Thief” by Michael Mann of “Miami Vice” fame. It also had great acting by the late Robert Prosky.
That’s the one where he’s held captive by an insane Kathy Bates. I’ve heard of it, but no, I haven’t seen it. Thanks for the tip.
