The capital of New York State has joined other cities in restricting the ability for gun owners to store them in their own home. A law has come into effect passed by the City Council requiring all guns to be locked in safes or using a gun lock at home. The police is handing out free locks, but stiff penalties are planned for anyone that does not comply.
The Albany Times Union reported on the new law.
First offenses will be violations carrying a fine of $250 or up to 15 days in jail so long as no one is injured or killed. A second offense â or first that causes injury or death â will be a misdemeanor punishable by a $1,000 fine and year in jail
Furthermore the gun owner is liable for the full criminal responsibility of any crimes committed by the weapons if stolen.
There is a similar effort to pass a similar law statewide that has been stalled for three years.
nine-eleven!!!
Laws were most numerous when the state was most corrupt.Imagine if the Romans had guns?

New York values in action ...
Thanks, Iâve never seen that before AFAICR.
“Itâs more important to have a gun in your hand than a cop on the phone.” - Florida Sheriff Grady Judd
Didn’t SCOTUS specifically reject this very trick a few years ago?
Call the Barney Fife Law.
You can have a gun but the state is going to make it as difficult as possible to actually use it.
It was never intended to be that way. Just think of the thousands, if not millions of laws (and codified regulations) that could be done away with if the federal governments multiple overlapping power hungry agencies were simply done away with. Any usefulness the agencies might have had could be given to the states.
Things are really reversed. Legislatures go to DC (and state capitols) to see what they can do. It should be to see how little they can do. The single most important thing is balancing a budget. And that single most important thing simply never happens in today’s District Of Corruption.
That gun lock law is not a law, but tyrannical misuse of legislative powers enacted to benefit an UnAmerican ideology.
These people are FRIGGING insane!
So now a person can be made criminally liable for somethingg another person does? Don’t try to pull this crap with me is all I can say.
Hear people trying break in. Go to safe. Remember combination under stress. Retrieve smart gun from safe. Find ammunition and empty magazine stored separately from firearm. Load magazine. Find key to unlock gun lock. Unlock gun lock. Go back for smartgun ring or wristband. Wait for gun and ring to pair up. Activate smart gun. Wait for it to warm up. Load magazine into firearm. Chamber round. Finally go to investigate disturbance.Hope it’s not too late.
Everyone breaks at least three laws a day according to one law scholar I heard.
I think the point is 3 Felonies/day.
So the criminals will get their locks and put them on their guns. That way the non-violent people will be safe.
Reality: criminals will waltz right in and take what they want and liberals will be happy because that’s what they want to happen.
How cool, so when someone is breaking in your door or assaulting you in your home is there a provision in the law for the victim to call “time out” so that they can get their weapon, unlock it and load it so that they can actually defend themselves?
I ended up getting a pistol safe - next to the bed. It takes an extra two seconds. Of course the dog will have been barking before the bad guy even gets to the house. I bought it on my own decision based on my own situation - the government doesn’t need to get involved.
During the day I carry it. I wonder if the lock law considers that?
“So you say that it is in a holster on your hip most of the day?”
“yes.”
“Do you ever use it.”
“No. Not yet, except for practice.”
“So, you don’t use it, it sits in the holster all day - that sounds a lot like you’re just storing it. Does it have a lock on it while it is in the holster?”
If a homeowner manages to shoot an armed home invader is that prima facie evidence that he did not have a gun lock in place? Can an injured home invader sue the homeowner who shoots him because the homeowner obviously did not have a gun lock on his gun because he was able to quickly shoot the home invader?
Anyone who complies with this law does not deserve the right to own a gun.
