Are you following this little story? A train pulls into Braintree station; moments later it leaves with nobody in the driverâs seat and barrels down the track at breakneck speed, blowing through station after station, terrifying the few passengers aboard who were awake. Finally, somebody notices and pulls the plug on the third rail, cutting power to the out-of-control train and bringing it to a stop.
The train âoperatorâ had apparently tied a cord to the throttle, did not set the brake, and stepped off the train â possibly to check on the status of the weather. The situation does raise the question of sabotage/terrorism butt so far the MBTA is maintaining their position that âmistakes were made.â
Sounds like a metaphor for America to me. I wonder whoâs writing these scripts?
footnote: âthird railâ in politics is a metaphor for any issue so controversial that it is "charged" and "untouchable" to the extent that any politician or public official who dares to broach the subject will invariably suffer politically. The metaphor comes from the high-voltage third rail in some electric railway systems. Stepping on this usually results in electrocution, and the use of the term in politics relates to the risk of "political death" that a politician would face by tackling certain issues. â Wiki

It would certainly be interesting to find out the name of the “operator”.
The engineer who derailed that train in PA speeding around a curve, killing and injuring many people, he seems to have faded into oblivion. It's like the public will soon forget.
Do they get to keep their jobs? Criminal or negligence charges? The media are making it sound like a "mistake."
I would not want to ride on a train with engineers who make "mistakes" like that. If they put them back to work, the public will never know. And even if somebody finds out and tries to alert the public, will posts on FB cut it?
Waiting for a reporter to report this little detail.
butt
an asshole wrote the copy ...
whose name is probably achmed, covahring for his (butt) bud, mohamud .. the drivah
"MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said the operator is a 51-year-old man who has worked for the T for more than 25 years, and Pollack said he is on administrative leave. Pesaturo said the train brushed against the operator as it left the station." If you need a source you can google a few words in quotes."
They had been using two operators on the trains.
That train blew through four stops. The operator did report it to the MBTA(?). It is a wonder they were able to act the way they did to avoid a major disaster.
Hey that’s Ready Kilowatt! Haven’t seen him in years.
Why tie a cord to the throttle, no brake and get off .... and it’s a mistake ?
Tied the throttle-—no. Defeat of the “dead-man” safety interlock is the problem. The operator was reportedly injured by contact with the train, possibly attempting to re-board upon noticing movement. But how did the train gain the speed reported-—a downhill grade? Criminal negligence is the big question.
I don’t know why. I read the cord is to leave both hands free, but then you’d think trains would have some kind of “cruise control”.<
I think the cord IS cruise control ... but we’re probably missing something in the definition of words
