Cagney and Bob Hope at a Friar's Club Meeting in 1955, back when actors were real performers; Hope was 52 and Cagney was 56.
This looks like it's from a movie, not a routine from a Friar's Club meeting. Doesn't take away from it though!
For the young folks, here is something you probably never seen before and, unfortunately, you may never see again.
For us older folks, this is the best of the best, and we had it for many years! This is a side of these two entertainers you hardly ever saw, but it shows you their enormous talent. Bob Hope, the best of comedians, and James Cagney, mostly cast as the bad guy, a gangster in the movies.
This is from “The Seven Little Foys.”
Could be, I guess. I just got it from my inbox.
That was great! Thanks!
Freaking great! Thanks for posting! I’m still smiling.
When I was young, I thought Hope was schmaltzy and stupid. Then I grew up, and recognized him as the great man he was! Can’t get enough!
Loved it! Thanks food the memories ..
It’s from “The Seven Little Foys”. Good movie.
I enjoyed and it had a bonus for me—the curtains. I’m going to copy them. Thanks!
Cagney’s dance looks a lot like his dancing in “Yankee Doodle Dandy”. Compare Cagney’s talent the talent of today’s movies stars. Let me correct myself. There is no comparison.
Thanks for posting.
I’ve seen it several times but never tire of watching it.
They were both great dancers and entertainers.
I have watched this scene 50 times and I am still amazed at Cagney’s flawless technique

I am so ignorant, I was not aware that Cagney could dance like that, simply amazing! And no CGI either :)
Excellent! Two of the most outstanding entertainers of all time!
Also viewed the “Jersey Boys” video linked right below it. Another not to miss.
That’s Old School. When DiCaprio and Damon are that age they’ll probably be twerking together.
And of course, Fred and Ginger
Cagney was a vaudeville hoofer before he became an actor playing punks and bad guys during the heyday of the Hollywood gangster period. If you get a chance check out “Yankee Doodle Dandy”, the biography of George M. Cohan. Then you’ll see Cagney at his best. Although you may have to swallow a little gorge at the end where there’s a scene with an off camera FDR. But hey, it was 1942 and Franklin was CIC leading the nation through a really rough time.
Agreed, from 1955 in glorious Technicolor. What is fun is to know how this is a celebration of vaudeville, traveling acting troupes & Tin Pan Alley in the early 1900s. Like now, there was great fun for performers then to compete in impromptu contests of skill as shown in this clip.
Hollywood put out a lot of these bio-pics that celebrated people like Cohan and Foy and made a good profit as well WITHOUT guns, curses and hero denigration. One wonders if they could do such today?
Bfl
Kevin Bacon danced alright in Footloose, and John Travolta in his movies. But to tell you the truth, I don't care if Al Pacino can dance or not. He's certainly not inferior to Bob Hope.
