Jet-powered, RC 1/15th scale Airbus A380!
I wonder how much he spent on this thing...
This radio-controlled Airbus A380-800 super-jumbo replica -built by German enthusiasts- has got to be the coolest RC model I've ever seen.
I remember when I was a kid, being wowed by my uncle's impressive RC collection, including multi-engine stuff and 'copters... but JETS? News to me!
And this one looks, sounds, and even moves at a pace that comes across as 'the real thing' easily on video... the jet roar is more than a little bit cool!
The plane is marked in Singapore Airlines livery -presumably because they stepped-up ordered the very first A380- and you truly have to watch the clip to believe it.
The 1/15th scale of the massive A-380 delivers these dimensions:
Length: 4.8 meters
Wingspan: 5.3 meters
Weight: ~ 71 kilograms
Fuel tanks hold 10 liters
Power comes from 4x Jetcat P120 turbine engines
(even available with afterburner!)
Check-out the Airbus as it taxies, takes off, flies and lands...

Way cool - but what happens if that puppy crashes?
I think “ napalm” describes what would result.

Wow! and here I am, happy with a 2-meter glider that I'm 1/3rd of the way done with...
Talk about something to strive for.
The jets on that baby are just TOO cool. The guy has a reason to be proud.

If the wings are full of fuel like the real deal, there will be a problem lol
The landing was a little shaky there at first, caught a downdraft at about ten feet off the ground...

Knew a guy that built a DC-9-10 that was nearly this large several years ago. It was painted in the Playboy Airlines colors, (Which was actually Purdue Airlines. Yes, they use to own the Playboy jet.)
It was “Ducted fan”, I think, and not a true jet. Used to take it around to the Airshow and Fly-in circuit until he crashed it one too many times, and it burned.
Styrofoam with a plastic shell.

...I don’t think that one I posted from eBay is jet-powered. Not for $300.

That’s cool whether you are an airplane geek or not.
Or, maybe I’m an airplane geek?

From eBay:
*Note that you are buying only the shell of the aircraft. No motor, control mechanism, etc.

The landing was a little shaky there at first, caught a downdraft at about ten feet off the ground... Ground effect. Gotta push through ground effect. I noticed that the pilot did not take off with his flaps down, but landed with them down. Shaky from an aviator standpoint. Always use your flaps. The jet also did not have on its anti-smash lights. FAA violation right there...

Flying out to Dallas in a few weeks. Plan on spending some time at DFW observation area.
Expect to see the real thing , and a Dreamliner.

Gotta brag. I have flown on both and the 747. The upper deck of the 380 is awesome. The dreamliner is cool but our domestic airlines srcewed the interiors. The 747 is a relic, we literally had jumper cables at DTW to start one of the engines, but still cool.
This model though is incredible and I would love to see the other two at the same scale sitting side by side with it.
To: rjsimmon
That this is probably relatively light, harder for it to push through ground effect... but I knew somebody on here would know this stuff, thanks

I’m not even an airplane geek and it’s still cool.

I don’t think you can get the engines for $300... no way
To: Reaganite Republican
There was a similar scale B-52 a while back that could drop scale bombs.
And a B-29 that could drop a radio-controlled X-1.
And don’t forget those flying RC lawnmowers ...
To: FreedomNotSafety
Did the 380 have a bar/lounge and such upstairs?
Love those Emirates suites on the 380... at least I think I would lol
