So I got caught up in the My Little Pony craze (I'll just watch one episode, see what all these people are talking about..), joined the Boston Bronies meetup group and last weekend drove to Baltimare, MD(sorry, bad horse puns are required!) for BronyCon 2015, the largest MLP convention in the world. Allow me to share with you my observations.
I can't know for sure, but this guy has a '98 sign up date.
I think he's a bit past 25.
Still, that's the kind of thing no MAN should need coaching on.
RE the bottom pic....
Look. I was young and needed the money alright? I’ve moved past that all now.
That reminds me of the first liberty they let us go on in boot camp, and about eight of us took the train from Great Lakes to Chicago, found a bar and began to drink.
We were so busy putting them down, until a black guy named Simmons who was with us said: “Guys...guys...that dude over there is looking at me like I’m some kind of delicacy or something!”
We all looked around, and sure enough...no women in the bar!
We had just walked into the first bar we came across, with a single purpose on our minds, and...wouldn’t you know it...
Hahahahahahaha...I don’t care who you are, that is funny! The hooves that the guy puts his hands into...I nearly spit my drink out when I saw that!
This is as weird as the juggalo thing...
I suppose it might be possible that he is so pure of heart, he has utterly no idea what he’s wading in the midst of.
If so, God bless him.
I said this on the last Pony thread that had FR in fits but once again...
Folks, You want to know what appeals to people about this cartoon? Innocence. The innocence that a lot of shows used to have and that can no longer be found on TV. It’s really that simple. The innocence LIFE used to have.
I’ll put my man card up against anyone’s with the boxes checked for “Alpha” and “Should be dead by now but somehow isn’t”. It’s a fun show. Fun. and I have ZERO shame saying it to anyone.
If someone feels better about themselves making fun of freepers that enjoy it, I question THEIR man card. Because some of us don’t have to be ‘on’ 24/7 to substitute for their ‘shortcomings’. Nor do some of us GAF about the size of their obviously overmeasured E-penis.
“and...wouldnt you know it...”
You discovered you liked dudes? ;)

LOL, we just had to run...didn’t stay long enough to find out...
I don’t think I live a sheltered life, but this “Brony” thing was a surprise to me.
It is just...well...strange to me. How did it all come about? I feel like an alien on my own planet sometimes.
True
Stands to reason mid 30s minimum
Not for me, either, but your words are the essence of true Liberty.
I’ll be the first to admit there is one hell of a fringe element. Some of these people ARE nuts. But for the most part it’s just people having fun. Every devoted fanbase has that really. Look at Trekkies.
I think it started as just an offshoot of a show like anything else. The only difference being it is supposed to be a show for little girls. Which basically it is. But it has solid writing/stories in a fantasy vein that are pretty broad and clearly beyond just kid stuff. It’s is kids stuff to the mind of the kids watching but adult fans see the broader aspects.
Really when you get right down to it, it’s a cutened up version of Lord of the Rings and no one has issues with that. Same good vs evil, same morality play aspects. Just without being so ‘direct’ in the visuals or verbage. Thats where the innocence thing comes in.
Hell we all like Bugs Bunny and RoadRunner. And the lest we forget, Rabbit dressed in drag hitting on Elmer. Kids laughed because it was funny. Adults laugh because Elmer is having some pretty unkidlike thoughts and doesn’t realize he’s headed for a homo hangover ;)
At least it ain't Japan.
I’ll be honest...it is so odd to me I cannot get my head around it.
I do have the feeling that, if it isn’t hurting anyone else...I have to bring myself to the stance that it is their thing, not mine. People gotta live their lives the way they see fit.
I am more than willing to admit I am a dinosaur on things like this, but...that is the way I roll. I can’t apologize for that any more than one of these folks would likely apologize to someone for following it.
I respect that you took the time to put that thread together. I just cannot digest it, but I will say this: if it sends a conservative message that registers, that is counterbalancing a huge tidal wave of liberal messaging that I find disgusting, so if this does indeed go against it, I would have no objection to the kids enjoying it.
I admit, when I looked at the pictures of the convention posted above, it reminded me of a combination Star Wars/Monkees convention I went to with a friend a few years back.
It was completely weird, because I am a pretty staid guy, but...it was fun just to see all the people who were really into it.
It was, I imagine, like going to a nudist beach, and being the only one wearing clothes, being at that convention.
