During U.S. President Barack Obamas speech on Wednesday regarding a new government initiative to bring high speed internet access to low-income groups, the topic of South Koreas education system came up.
In South Korea they pay their teachers the way they pay their doctors, he said in front of an audience at Durant High School in Durant, Okla. They consider education to be at the highest wrung of the professions.
The reason it came up at all had to do with South Koreas widespread high speed internet access especially in the citys capital of Seoul.
Obama voiced a similar statement in April when he said that teachers are paid at the level that doctors and engineers are paid.
In fact, he has frequently lauded South Koreas education system since taking office in 2009.
But the claim drew criticism because there isnt hard evidence available that supports the idea that pay is equal among the mentioned professions. In fact, the Korean Federation of Teachers Association (KFTA) pointed out that significant salary disparities exist particularly between doctors and teachers. The KFTA later mentioned that the assertion was most likely a misunderstanding.
And hey dog torture is super there as well.
Does South Korea have teacher unions? Tenure?
Yes, of course they do. They’re actually more advanced, in many ways, than we are. Which is stunning, as they were a high-grade yet third-world country when I was stationed there.
And I mean really sickening cruel torture. Not quick.
I guess that they were wrung out and hung up to dry after reaching that rung of the profession.
Regards,
South Korea has an epidemic of kids who study past midnight.
Their kids like math!
It is a very different culture.
How can anyone think this nation deserves a second glance? Barbaric and medieval beliefs.
And when would that have been? In the 1950s? The 1990s?
Regards,
Well janitors do much more for humanity than politicians. Somebodies pay needs to be cut.
1978-79 and 1981-82. How old do you think I am? LOL
He can always move there, like tomorrow, permanently, and we will even throw him a helluva moving party free of charge!
So we should be able to go to any teacher we like?
I lived there for two years and was all over the place. I only saw dogs butchered and for sale once. They are probably the hardest-working people I’ve ever met and can be very friendly or very militant, depending on the situation. Also, they fought beside us in Vietnam (two large divisions and a brigade) and in Iraq. Every society has some dark sides. I love dogs, just as you obviously do, but it’s hard to judge someone else’s civilization by our standards.
They don’t want him. Blacks are looked down upon there in ways that would’ve made Bull Connor blush.
...those who can, do.....and those who can’t.....well, you know the rest...
To Obama, teachers are the front line shock troops of the one-world revolution. They mold and shape the young minds into such a muddled mush of socialism they can’t think straight. No wonder he thinks they should be paid as much.
Teachers are highly paid because they are highly qualified. There is no way a bottom third student, from a third-tier college, could enter the teaching profession over there.
Sorry but they will not get a nod of positive anything from my direction until they stop being so cruel. Thanks for your input though.
