[NJ] What is asked of a "reference" for a New Jersey firearms ID?

A first for me -- I've been asked to be one of the "references" for a friend getting her NJ firearms ID.
Do any fellow Garden Staters know the questions that get asked when they call? Thanks

General stuff: how long have you known him/her, are they of good character, etc. I was contacted for two applicants, and as I recall, the interview was short and only 3 or 4 questions were asked.

I lived there in the 90’s and kept being denied a permit. I later learned through a politically connected friend that the only way to get one back then was to donate at least $10k to the local chief of police election campaign.

does he drink? does he do drugs..
