President Obama's ambitious trade agenda unraveled Friday in a stunning setback delivered by his own party as the House rejected an important piece of a package aimed at fast-tracking a controversial trade pact he is pursuing with 11 other Pacific Rim nations.
Hoping to salvage what could be a key part of his legacy, Obama dashed to Capitol Hill before the vote Friday for a rare early morning meeting with Democrats. But amid fears that a trade deal would hurt American workers, even Obama's dramatic personal intervention failed to generate the Democratic votes needed to bolster his unusual alliance with pro-trade Republicans.
The White House dismissed the vote as a procedural snafu and vowed to salvage the trade legislation when the House votes again next week.
But the unusual defeat at the hands of the increasingly defiant liberal wing of the Democratic Party was seen as a sign of Obama's waning influence as he approaches his final two years in office.
This is not about the president, said Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), the liberal stalwart who led the opposition. It really is all about what [lawmakers] heard from their own people, what they thought was the right thing to do.

We voted them in.
We vote them out.
When the GOP holds few seats, they will get the message.
Thanks for the Senate list. Now, we need the House list posted, like this. Then we need to repost it and send it out, far and wide.
I totally concur in your abhorrence of secret legislation. My comments merely had to do with slavish concerns over who is rich and who is not.
Exactly. It ain’t over.
Zer0 is not giving up near absolute power ( in his own mind) willingly.
No one cared about anyone in DC....except their stock portfolios.
Two things I get. You approach life and politics in terms of wealth, and you do not realize the word “their” in your post has two possible referents: the “middle class” whom you would champion, and “the rich” to whom you apparently aspire.
Why is he not on our terrorist list? Although it is now just a desired immigrant list.
Let's go back to the first sentence of the article above for the answer to that question:
President Obama's ambitious trade agenda unraveled Friday in a stunning setback delivered by his own party as the House rejected an important piece of a package aimed at fast-tracking a controversial trade pact
That is the face of a man who has committed many evil acts in his life, and he regrets none of them.
The OP you responded to went somewhere he shouldn’t have, in principle. But it does increasingly appear that the CoC Republicans are willing to cede authority to 0bama at ALL costs, something which, given his history of abusing his authority he should not be allowed to do, even in the interest of free trade.
Does anyone have a link on how each rep. voted?
I’ve been looking and can’t find anything.
> Why is he not on our terrorist list? Although it is now just a desired immigrant list.
Because he gets whole governments and politicians to turn their heads via huge donations, payoffs or cutting them in on the action. Rumor has it (for a long time now) that he’s involved in the drug trade so hell he may be a trillionaire by now. If he had caused this many problems and wasn’t passing out stuffed envelopes he’d be on the most wanted Interpol list and he’d already be pumped full of lead and dumped into the ocean as shark bait...
It’s a pertinent question, since the House would not have a chance to reject it if the Senate had not already approved.
Maybe this stinker will be the thing that finally wakes up the Middle Class.
Very very few people in Washington have our best interests at heart.
> That is the face of a man who has committed many evil acts in his life, and he regrets none of them.
And it shows.
Don't fall for this story.
FYI: Here are the GOP presidential candidates (alphabetical order) who OPPOSE Obamatrade:
Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, Bobby Jindal, Rand Paul, Rick Santorum, Donald Trump.
Ok, I don’t know if I like this trade deal or hate this trade deal. But I stand behind one idea. If you can’t show it to the people, then I hate it.
The whole point of democracy or a republic is that the people get to be informed about the people making the decisions and the laws they are passing. If you can’t show it to us. Then someone is trying to get around democracy.
