Speaking of Texas, we're really getting a sad picture of right-wing paranoid extremism.
A planned military exercise called Jade Helm 15 is seen as a cover for an Obama administration operation to take over the state.
And if you're a Republican Texas politician like Gov. Greg Abbott or Sen. Ted Cruz, you have to act as if these are legitimate concerns.
Not that he distrusts the military exactly, Cruz said, but "we have seen, for six years, a federal government disrespecting the liberty of the citizens. That produces fear, when you see a government that is attacking our free speech rights, or Second Amendment rights, or religious liberty rights. That produces distrust."
So, one supposes, it's only natural to believe Texas is going to be invaded by the United States. Or by the Islamic State. Or Wal-Mart. Or whoever else is part of the conspiracy.
Crazy? Sure. But the governor takes it seriously enough to order the Texas State Guard to keep an eye on the U.S. military. Just in case.
Just remember. It's Obama's fault.
Looks like Doug missed the ISIS attack in Garland, Texas yesterday, huh?
looks like doug hasnt been following obies history very carefully, either
nor evidently has he ever noted the truly huge deliveries of ammunition to DHS...etc..etc.
far better to keep on eye on the regime than to be SORRY down the line.
What do womyn’s studies majors call those who can’t hack their intense demanding academic program?
Journalism majors.
Consider this article a QED.
Doug must be blind. The Obama triggered invasion is occuring along the Texas-Mexico border for all to see.
Little Dougie got his panties in a knot...
So I’m guessing Doug would be okey-dokey with fed, state or local goons doing house-to-house searches under direct threat of deadly shooting by LE for immediate non compliance like they did in the aftermath of Boston Marathon Bombings, huh?
Just hunky dorey....Fed Gubmint can do anything it damn well wants and if involves not telling locals sh!t then it’s okay as long as gubmint says “trust us.”
He’s a grade A idjit.
>>So, one supposes, it’s only natural to believe Texas is going to be invaded by the United States.
Poor Doug. Texas is part of the United States, so the US can’t really invade Texas. But, it can use the might of the federal government to exert military control over the citizens of Texas.
Can’t happen, Doug? Remember 1861-65. It already has!
I am ashamed to say I studied Women Studies and Journalism at university and I worked at the Environmental Studies program.
Thankfully, I had the sense to marry a conservative/libertarian and move to Arizona and read FR daily.
Wait a second...Just made a contribution to Free Republic just now.
I worked across the highway from a National Guard Training camp comprised of several thousand acres. There were more than 50,000 soldiers from all branches of the military who trained there each year. It was a very intimidating sight watching those convoys roaring in and out, not to mention the almost constant barrage of artillary being detonated and fired in their training exercises. It took me a while to get used to the building shaking. I can imagine that it would be unsettling to see a convoy of that size in civilian areas.
Cruz and the governor were right to make inquiries and reassure the citizens they represent. I don’t know what this guys beef is.
If Obama has his way, those convoy trucks will have Farsi scrawled across the doors.
That revolving sign is so cool. I am so pleased I can add my bit and hopefully others will be encouraged to keep FP available to us who need this site. Thank-you. And you are welcome.
I agree. There's no danger of a federal takeover of the states.
Obama has assured me that there's in no cause for such fears.
I seem to remember the Democrat governor of LA refused to allow the Bush administration to federalize the National Guard on the eve of Katrina because “A lot of people think that sounds like Martial Law”. I wonder If he wrote an article about the paranoid left-wing nutjobs?
Has Obama replaced the Governor of Texas, yet?
Did you actually look at that article? It’s a scare-story about an artillery unit going to Ft. Sill for their monthly training.
Same thing my unit just did driving from Dallas down to Ft. Hood, though we’re a decent bit smaller than they are.
